More brake back plates to replace due to excessive corrosion, also brake shoe lining seperating (pic 3), Job for next week.

Not just boat trailer axles that corrode, This is 1 axle of a pair that I replaced last week to a Richardson 12 x 5 livestock trailer. Both axles were very badly corroded and weakened, left un-noticed would have led to failure of axles.

Hb 511 broken supension leaf spring, This fault was found yeterday when i was servicing an hb511, the pics are from the front lh leaf spring it has broken at the front of the spring (spring eye) The spring is now hooked on to the spring bush rather than covering the diameter of the bush, new spring ordered and customer not going to use trailer till job done as the spring can become detached from the spring eye bush at any time, which could be disasterous. another reason why annual servicing is so important as you would not feel your trailer act any different in this case untill its too late, done a few of these now with break in same place, so defonetely one to look out for.

Hb 511 axle bump stop, Here we have pics of axle bump stops, I serviced this trailer today only to discover that somebody has fitted front axle bump stop (1st image) incorrectly as it is only held in place by 1 u-bolt and not 2 u-bolts as shown in 2nd image of rear axle bump stop. An easy repair but how this was put together like this is beyond me?, The u bolts / bump stops are a vital part of the suspension / axle set up so any fault or poor workmanship has the potential to be disasterous, Another good reason to have your trailer serviced yearly (by someone who knows what they are doing).

Boat trailer job carried out the other week, New brake shoes, adjusters / mechanisms, stainless steel 5mm wire rope with individual s/steel turnbuckles to each hub, new hitch assembly fitted, brakes adjusted at hubs 1st then at hitch assembly, all good.
