"I’ve toyed with the idea of sharing these pictures for a long time. I hate the idea of pointing out flaws in James’ appearance and I absolutely don’t want anyone thinking that we proceeded with the helmet for (as the NHS would have you believe) purely cosmetic reasons. To me, our little guy is the most beautiful and perfect human being on earth. I’m still not comfortable sharing pictures of his facial asymmetry as I feel it’s just a step too far. But I wanted people to see what we were faced with, we knew something wasn’t right. You can see clearly from the back the asymmetry in James’ ears and skull shape, you can also see from the side view how much his forehead was protruding and the top view shows again, how asymmetric his ears were. Despite these obvious issues, we were told things would improve on their own. We just weren’t willing to take that risk. There is a very finite window for helmet therapy to be effective, once a baby’s skull is fused, it can no longer be guided to grow properly so the decision to helmet was not really a ‘let’s wait and see’ option. In sharing these pictures, I hope you can see why we did what we did. If a child has wonky teeth, we have no issue with fitting them with braces. A wonky head is just as easily fixed with a bit of help. If you haven’t already, please sign and share our petition and shout our cause from the rooftops! As soon as we get our final scan results and ‘after’ photos from the clinic, I’ll share them and hopefully you will all be blown away by the improvement!" "Today Archie loses the helmet forever! This week we were told Archie no longer needs to wear his helmet treating him for Plagiocephaly & Brachycephaly. For him and everyone else who sees him, it's been such a massive part of his life and it's all he has ever known. The results have been overwhelming, he exceeded all his targets for the treatment. We were told he will never have a perfectly round head but since finishing the treatment, he's had his first haircut and to me, his head shape looks as normal as ever. A massive thanks to everyone that helped us to make his treatment possible. Thank you to Cut'n'Copy Ltd for his amazing Captain America vinyl and The London Orthotic Consultancy @loc_manufacturing for providing the helmet and endless amounts of support." Catching up with Baby Ewan, Nine years After Helmet Therapy
Helmet therapy helped reduce Ewan’s plagiocephaly from 17mm asymmetry to 5mm. A huge difference, says mum Natalie, that would not have been possible by relying on repositioning alone. Natalie says that Ewan’s early diagnosis not only reduced her worries and uncertainties but also meant more could be done. Read Natalie's full story below.
