The exercise involved a search for a missing person, a Casualty Care scenario and included OIC practice for a member of Redcar Coastguard Team. Thank you and well done to everyone who attended. Staithes Coastguard Rescue Team are currently providing safety cover due to the tidal surge and flood risk at Sandsend. Please do not put yourself at risk, no wave dodging and please do not get too close to take photographs. The A174 is closed in both directions from Lythe to Meadowfield Road in Sandsend. Please avoid this route and follow diversions which are in place. In a coastal Emergency or Incident, immediately dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Staithes Coastguard Rescue Team will have resources in place at Sandsend during the flood warnings. For any coastal emergency dial 999 and ask for Coastguard Rescue.
Last night we joined Redcar Coastguard and our Senior Coastal Operations Officer for a search exercise. For the exercise we conducted a search for a simulated missing person from Marske, Coastguard Rescue Officers were briefed and the exercise led by a member of Redcar Coastguard Rescue Team. This was a good session to practice and develop our search and rescue skills, and great experience for the Officer in Charge to gain valuable practice and experience when leading an incident. Well done and thank you to all Coastguard Rescue Officers involved. For any Coastal incident and emergency, dial 999 and ask for Coastguard Rescue.
15th January 2018 Yesterday one of our new members passed his foundation assessment making him operational. Well done and we look forward to getting him cold and wet in the very near future! It takes commitment, hard work and a fair bit of time to become operational but it's well worth it. FOR ANY INCIDENT ON THE COAST, PHONE 999 AND ASK FOR THE COASTGUARD.
Sunday 7th January 2018. 15.31 Two incidents, one after the other. Team tasked to help with a police search at Sandsend along with Whitby Coastguard, on route to the incident we had further information that the casualty had been located and was safe. Both vehicles were re-tasked to another incident at Saltburn. A member of the public had seen a surfer who appeared to be in difficulty. On arrival at the scene, it was established that the surfer had recovered to the beach and had left the area. Well done to all involved. DONT FORGET, FOR ANY INCIDENT ON THE COAST, DIAL 999 AND ASK FOR THE COASTGUARD.
4th January 2018. 14.59 Team paged to an injured male on the Cleveland way near Port Mulgrave. The casualty had made his way to the roadside and was met by Yorkshire ambulance service. Team stood down and returned to station. A team was next sent to Sandsend to monitor the area as a surge tide was expected with over topping of waves. Whitby team took over at approximately 17.30 and the Staithes team relocated to patrol from Sandsend to Skinningrove calling at Runswick Bay and Staithes. Stood down at 1900. Today also saw some of our recent recruits pass their foundation assessment, one of them even attending the callout whilst being assessed! No pressure there then. Well done to the 3 of them. Great job, all the hard work pays off in the end.
⚠ ⚠ ⚠ Flood Warnings ⚠ ⚠ ⚠ As storm Eleanor hits the UK bringing winds of up to 60mph to the Yorkshire Coast the Environment Agency has issued a series of flood warnings and alerts for the coast. The following FLOOD WARNINGS have been issued. North Sea at Sandsend This flood warning is in force during the morning high tide on Wednesday 3rd January. Peak spring tides coinciding with unsettled weather is leading to wave overtopping and spray being forecast at Sandsend between 04:15 and 06:30 North Sea at Scarborough - Foreshore Road. Flooding is expected for properties on Foreshore Road from the roundabout to West Pier . This flood warning is in force during the morning high tide on Wednesday 3rd January. Peak spring tides coinciding with unsettled weather is leading to wave overtopping and spray being forecast at Scarborough Foreshore Road between 05:00 and 06:45. North Sea at Scarborough - Spa Complex. Flooding is expected for the Spa Complex. This flood warning is in force during the morning high tide on Wednesday 3rd January. Peak spring tides coinciding with unsettled weather is leading to wave overtopping and spray being forecast at the Scarborough Spa complex between 04:30 and 07:00. Coastguard team's from Staithes Coastguard, Scarborough Coastguard Rescue Team and Hornsea will be pre-deployed for this event. S5C.
Staithes Coastguard Rescue Team would like to wish our families, friends and followers a peaceful, safe and prosperous New Year. A special greeting goes to all of the emergency service colleagues that we have worked alongside throughout the year. This year we have attended almost 100 incidents, and have provided support to North East Ambulance Service, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Great North Air Ambulance Service. As well as working with Cleveland Police, North Yorkshire Police and other agencies such as Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team, Redcar RNLI and Staithes & Runswick RNLI as well as many others. A huge thank you to our wives, husbands, partners, family members and all who have suppported us throughout the year. We look forward to next year when we will be welcoming new members to the team and will continue to provide our services to those in need. Please remember to call 999 and ask for Coastguard for all incidents and emergencies on the coast.
This morning, some of the team went to Saltburn to observe the Boxing Day dip and to provide any assistance if necessary. Thankfully our rescue services weren’t required.
