Copley Cricket Club is a Yorkshire Cricket Board (“YCB”) Focus Club – one of only 30 in West Yorkshire and 3 in the Halifax League - and has been awarded Sport England’s Club Mark accreditation. This means that we have met all the necessary criteria as to; playing programme, coaching, child protection, sports equity, ethics, club management and that we continue to provide a high quality and welcoming environment for young people in sport.

In addition to our three senior sides (two play on Saturday and one plays on Sunday in the Halifax Cricket League) we are particularly proud of our thriving junior section. We are a member of the Halifax Junior Cricket League and run teams in the U9s, U11s, U13s, U15s, U16s and U17s age categories. We now have more qualified ECB coaches working with these youngsters than ever before (currently around 20 level 1 and level 2, including 2 female coaches)

In addition to a magnificent new pavilion the Club enjoys an excellent site for playing and watching cricket in an extremely picturesque setting. There are good quality seats surrounding the playing surface which makes the ground ideal for the staging of “cricket festivals” and “major games”. For many years Copley has been one of a limited number of Halifax League clubs to be able to stage major cup finals and have hosted the Halifax League’s Parish Cup Final on a number of occasions.

A great day at Illingworth CC yesterday...but not the results we were hoping for. Our U11s posted a score of 81 off their 20 overs, with Inchal Dar retiring and Isaac Thompson making an excellent 23. Sowerby St Peters bowled very well and took some excellent catches. We knew that we would also need to bowl and field well to have any chance of victory, particularly with SSP's opening pair of Milton Greenwood and Harry Clarke striding to the crease...two very good batsmen that both duly retired at 25 giving SSP a solid base to chase down the target. The runs then dried up and it was then nip and tuck, coming down to the last over. The scores were level with one ball to go but SSP took the spoils. Our U13s then took on Stones...batting first having lost the toss. Our top order, so dominant all season, never really got going...scoring was difficult with Stones' bowlers showing great discipline. The slow bowlers took regular wickets, including a hattrick, ensuring the run rate was restricted. We limped to 63...a modest total, with Isaac Thompson following up his earler score with a very good 20 not out. Stones' openers set off conservatively, a result of some excellent bowling from Sheroz and Shazil, but they were always favourites to knock them off. The excellent bowling continued with great spells from Aryan and Hashim but some hard hitting in the middle overs saw Stones inch ever closer and they finally reached their target in the 18th over. A great effort fm the team to defend their total. Some very good young cricketers on display and two very good games of cricket...played in the right spirit. Congratulations to Sowerby St Peters and Stones on their victories and big thanks to the HJCL and Illingworth CC for the organisation and hosting of the event...we were made very welcome. A fantastic effort from all the lads in both teams throughout the season and a final experience that will make each and everyone of them even stronger. Until next season. CCC
