The Right to Education - Free online course
We advocate learning in all of its forms. For example, engaging with free courses that are available online (such as those provided via 'Futurelearn') can be a great way to prepare for and enhance that which learners study with us in person. The link provided below will be of particular interest to current and future learners who elect to study Sociology as part of their program...
AHED students have visited the University of Portsmouth, University of Southampton and - this week - the University of Winchester. Gaining an insight into university life is a vital component of promoting a culture of high aspirations and we are proud of our record of student progression and success.
The Adult and Higher Education team have the pleasure of working with individuals who want to enter professions such as nursing, midwifery, social work, teaching and many more. Whilst individual starting points vary (and include the Out There Project, Elevate or Access to HE), the outcome and approach is shared: hard work, high aspirations and a relentless drive to shake off negative labels.

It is a busy and engaging afternoon at the Gosport Employment and Skills Fair. We are here until 7pm - come and see us (we're by the main entrance)
Our high number of part time year 1 students means that we are - at very least - going to match the record number of students we have on the Access to HE diploma program in September! If you or someone you know wants to be part of one of St V's success stories, get in touch very soon! P.s. Watch this space for information about our Access to HE Taster event!
Another 'Elevate: Criminology' course started today along with the inaugrial 'Elevate: Psychology' program. In addition, 'Introduction to Counselling starts later this week along with Sociology next week! If any of these seem appealing, contact us via adulted@stvincent.ac.uk. Ps. Watch out for news of yet another new program that will start in the summer term (it'll be a 5-week course and will be free)!.
The Access to Higher Education students have now finished their part of the university application process (not forsaking those that are still to be interviewed). 40 UCAS applications (and references) have been sent for the academic year 2016/17. Courses range from Nursing and Midwifery to Teacher-Training and Social Work. In addition, Psychology, Criminology and History (amongst other courses) remain popular. Whilst many of our learners seek to study at the local universities (Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester), a few intend to go further afield. For example, applications to the University of Manchester, the University of Edinburgh and Newcastle University have been submitted. The 35 year 1, part-time Access learners can't wait to get started with their applications (although their UCAS tutor is thankful that there is a break... for a month or so...). If you or someone that you know wants to go to university but do not have the traditional qualifications to do so, share this message with them. There is a very good reason why we run one of the biggest and most successful Access programs in the county! We are proud of the work that we do and, more importantly, we are intensely proud of our learners. We know that they are destined for success. Contact us via adulted@stvincent.ac.uk or access@stvincent.ac.uk. Alternatively, call us on 023 9258 3890 (enquire about Access to HE).
It has been great to see our learners this week!
