We are delighted to announce that Deliciously Ella, Ella Mills, together with her husband Matt Mills, have joined us as High Profile Supporters. Ella is the daughter-in-law of Baroness Tessa Jowell, who galvanised the political community in the House of Lords with her campaign for those affected by brain tumours following her own diagnosis. “We're really pleased to be supporting all the brilliant work that The Brain Tumour Charity does. Our family has recently been affected by a brain tumour and we've seen first-hand how important the support, research and awareness they offer is.” - Ella. Did you see this powerful piece in The Sun today? Sometimes diagnosis comes after a range of symptoms have presented, other times it can come after a significant event. But what is important is to be symptom aware so diagnosis is as early as possible, follow our HeadSmart campaign to make sure you are aware of the most reported signs and symptoms. Early diagnosis can reduce life changing disabilities and potentially save lives. Together we can make more people aware. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6002246/piggy-in-the-middle-girl-brain-tumour-hallucinating-playground/

*** RESEARCH NEWS *** Almost a quarter of all primary brain tumours in adults are meningiomas. They are tumours that arise from the meninges, which are layers of tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Research led by a team at the University of California San Francisco and California State University Channel Islands has uncovered a genetic driver associated with clinically aggressive meningiomas. This discovery could help the development of more effective treatments, and help healthcare professionals better distinguish between slow-growing and aggressive meningiomas. As Brain Tumour Awareness Month 2018 comes to a close, we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you for your support. With your help, we’ve seen real progress for those affected by brain tumours this March. We've committed £20.2 million to research, held 373 Big Bandana Bakes, and received a commitment from Public Health England to improving access to 5-ALA (a beneficial surgical tool otherwise known as the ‘pink drink’) for all neurocentres across England. Thank you again for everything you’ve done to make these highlights happen. Remember, if you’ve still got funds to send in from Brain Tumour Awareness Month and Big Bandana Bake, there’s still time! Please visit our website to find out more and help push the total higher!

Izzy, aged 13, has raised an incredible £700 from her #BandanaBake! The bake was held in memory of her friend Evie who sadly passed away just months after her diagnosis. Izzy wrote some incredibly powerful words about losing Evie and why she has chosen to support us, and we thought we would share a snippet with you… “There is a song - “Only the Good Die Young” and never is this more appropriate than in Evie’s case. Evie was a hard-working, positive, kind person who respected people for who and what they are and her death must bring something positive. I want to help keep Evie’s memory alive, and give my time and efforts to the charities who are working to alleviate suffering and undertaking important research to help cure such a terrible illness. A cure was once a long way off for many forms of cancer but so much progress has been made. My hope is that in my lifetime I will see more progress, and more life –saving research into effective brain tumour treatments.” A huge thank you to Izzy and everyone who helped make her Big Bandana Bake such a huge success. Together we are so much stronger.
