Britain on Film on Tour - A partnership between the Independent Cinema Office (ICO) and the BFI bringing unprecedented access to the UK’s history on film. Our Cornwall Galleries and bar will be open and the films will be introduced by Mark Douglas, Senior Lecturer in Film at Falmouth University. BUY TICKETS ONLINE AT NMMC.CO.UK Travel back to the golden age of the railways, when trains ran on time and came complete with fluffed pillows, silverware and three course meals. Railways on Film charts the history of the UK’s railways in a major new collection of rare archive films, from 1898 to the final steam train of 1968. Return to the romance and glamour of early train travel and be swept away by the freedom of travelling through the past and breadth of the UK. Sourced from the BFI National Archive and newly digitised with a newly commissioned soundtrack, Railways on Film revels in nostalgia for the lost glories of train travel, while documenting the rapidly changing social, economic and political climate of the UK from the tracks.

#Throwback to the early days of the Lifeboat 13 boat build, part of a programme of reconstructions of historical craft in the Museum’s boatbuilding workshop. The Titanic carried 14 lifeboats of the type the Museum has reconstructed. We chose 13 partly because there’s a very good account written of what happened in the boat and how it nearly came to grief – by the English schoolmaster Lawrence Beesley. But Boat 13 also helps us examine some of the Titanic myths, such as ‘women and children first’. Looking at who was in the boat we begin to see a more complicated picture. The team carried out extensive research to ensure the boat is as faithful a reconstruction as possible. See the life-size replica of Lifeboat 13 as part of our Titanic Stories exhibition now open in Falmouth Cornwall More at NMMC.CO.UK
Last night we held a party to thank our brilliant volunteers. Last year our volunteer team gave us 30,156 hours. Since 2005 (we didn’t keep records before this date) our volunteers have consistently given us over 30,000 hours each year. Amazing!
Delighted to be shortlisted - thank you @cornwallbusinessawards and Business Cornwall Magazine :-)
