Rescued from a marina in West London today. The nasty damage to the beak was caused when it was attacked after wandering into another families territory. Very poorly when it was picked up but thankfully has perked up a bit this evening in our intensive care unit.

With many thanks to Marina Jirotka who waited with these abandoned cygnets from 8.30 this morning until they could be safely caught and brought back to Swan Lifeline by our team. We very much appreciate your help and as you can see the cygnets are settling in well.

Another poor victim of a territorial dispute. She has badly damaged wings which needed to be bandaged before she was transported back to our intensive care unit. We all hope she will recover well.

Sad to report yet another victim of a dog attack. He has a puncture wound in his leg which is treated with saline water and a coating of honey which acts as an anti-bacterial barrier. We hope for a speedy recovery.

Our team were called to help this swan on a fishing lake in Yateley. He had a barbed hook embedded in his neck which was attached to one very heavy weight and many metres of line. He had three cygnets of which he was very protective so catching him and un-tackling him was not an easy task. Once caught, the hook was removed and he was immediately returned to the water. The fisherman who cast the hook reported it to us and was apologetic. He should not, though, have been using a barbed hook. The tackle will be added to our growing collection.

This poor swan was rescued this morning from Boveney Lock near Windsor thanks to a member of the public who found her and called our rescuers out and then waited with her until we arrived. She has been badly beaten in a territorial dispute and has damage to her wings and neck. She is now resting quietly in our intensive care unit. Fingers crossed for a full recovery.

This poor swan was entrusted to our care by Shires Wildlife Aid, to whom we are very grateful, and the RSPCA. He was a good weight and had no outward signs of injury but was unable to balance. He had been shot with an air rifle and the pellet was lodged in his lower mandible, he had been badly beaten causing further damage to his neck and was suffering from an infection. He was eating well and there was a slight improvement in his balance. The decision was taken that when he had recovered from the infection and had become become stronger the pellet would be removed as it was not interfering with eating. Unfortunately he has taken a turn for the worse and we believe he may have symptoms of brain damage which would make his life and future recovery impossible. Sadly the decision has been taken to put him to sleep. This appalling and vicious attack is being thoroughly investigated.

A new addition to our junior flock. In the foreground an orphaned cygnet abandoned by its parents and traumatised after the death of its only sibling. Now firm friends with this little chap and enjoying each other's company.
