Book launch for "Von Ripper's Odyssey" by Sian MacKay

The chance discovery of a blue file, bulging with photographs and letters, hidden for almost half a century under a wardrobe in the disused poolhouse of an abandoned villa near Pollença, Mallorca, led author Sian Mackay on the trail of Baron Rudolph von Ripper. Von Ripper (1905-60) was an Austrian aristocrat who turned his back on tradition to become an outstanding artist and later a US Army sharpshooter. He fought with the French Foreign Legion, survived torture at the hands of the Gestapo, escaped from the first concentration camp, painted marine life in The Bahamas, worked for the CIA in Vienna, designed jewellery with his friend Salvador Dali and was eventually found dead at his home in Mallorca, in mysterious circumstances . . . . Meet the author of this extraordinary biography on 4th November, hear more about the incredible life of Rudolph von Ripper and Sian Mackay's detective work . . . and join us for refreshments afterwards. Free, ticketed. Please book a place on EventBrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/von-rippers-odyssey-war-resistance-art-and-love-tickets-28506729395
