Boskalis Rock Fall is the leading marine drilling and blasting contractor. We have worked world-wide on projects of varying size and complexity. Rock Fall was formed in the mid 50s(1956) and operated in Scotland for the quarry and civil engineering industry. In 1964 Rock Fall carried out its first underwater drilling and blasting contract. This was at Methil Power Station in Scotland. The company continued to expand, especially in the marine blasting side of the business.
In 1971 Rock Fall became a member of Boskalis and by the mid 70s had become a relatively large drilling and explosives engineering company, who carried out various types of work throughout the world.
There were three main sections to the company:~
The land section, which carried out drilling and blasting for the quarry operations, open cut coal mining and blasting for road cuts.
The exploration section carried out mineral exploration drilling, site investigation work and waterwell drilling.
The Marine blasting section carried out work for the dredging companies, for harbour and channel deepening and foreshore trenching.

In 1980 it was decided to reshape the company and bring its departments into line with the Groups new divisional structure. As a result, the land blasting section was transferred to Boskalis Construction who remained in the Barrhead offices in Glasgow.
The mineral exploration section transferred to Land and Marine Engineering and moved to Bromborough near Liverpool.

The marine blasting section retained the name of Rock Fall and became a member of the dredging Division. It was then based at Dukes Keep, Southampton and was located in the same office block as Westminster Dredging Company.
The mineral exploration section went with Land & Marine when they left the group early 1984.
The land blasting section from Barrhead were party to a management buy out where they became part of the Murphy Group of companies who then changed the name to “ Rock Lift”

Rock Fall to date has executed 270 marine drilling and blasting projects in 38 countries.
