INDOOR MARKET CREATIVITY Art Foundation students were given the chance to put creative ideas into practice through a special project at Darlington’s indoor market to brighten up the Victorian building and help develop a new and exciting future for it. The students presented their ideas to Stephen Wiper who shortlisted four to be developed further and then put on show to the public later this year. The four chosen projects are: Architectural light projections by Hasstie Mirsamadi Interactive winged figures by Kim Meras, Asmita Gurung and Rina Thapa 3D painting by Rachelle Cox Creative text doilies by Chloe Myers What an achievement for the students, we can’t wait to see their ideas on show in the market later this year! :)

NATIONAL SCIENCE COMPETITION SUCCESS QE’s Chantal Goulder has been identified as one of the best young scientists in the country. As such, she has been invited to attend the national finals of The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Competition in March at the NEC Birmingham following her project ‘Investigating charge-transfer states in organic donor-acceptor molecules’. Chantal will now present her project at the national finals to the judges and members of the public. She has also been offered a place to read Natural Sciences at Cambridge University next year. We are exceptionally proud of all of Chantal’s successes, she has a wonderful future ahead of her! :)

BEAR-ING GIFTS IN BORNEO Friends and family of the QE students who travelled to Borneo were able to hear about and watch footage of their adventure of a lifetime during presentation evenings held at the College. Stories were shared about the students’ work at sun bear and orangutan sanctuaries, in addition to their treks through the rainforest and snorkelling on the Tar Islands. A special mention was also given to Northwood Primary School whose teddy bear mascots travelled with the students! The trip was a huge success and students are already looking forward to Malawi 2017!
