On the 7th and 8th of September World of Wings will be holding our annual carcass feed in celebration of International Vulture Awareness Day! At 12pm on both days we will be having an African themed multi bird display which will include providing a carcass for our birds to feed off. Our Ruppell’s Griffon Vulture, Bateleur Eagle, White Stork and African Pied Crow will all be out together and will have access to a carcass. The idea behind this is to show how all these species would act around a carcass in the wild. The day will more importantly be used to highlight the plight of African Vultures and their decline and we will be raising funds for the International Centre for Birds of Prey’s efforts to conserve Africa’s vultures throughout the day. Many species of vulture across Africa have declined by 95% or more and an entire ecosystem of animals rely on them to clean up carcasses, prevent disease and to keep a natural balance in the food chain so it has never been more important to support these vital birds. Please join us on the 7th and 8th of September to celebrate these incredible creatures! Photo by Fiona Brims.

Asha our Lanner Falcon performed one of her best, completely visible stoops to the lure in front of an audience last week. Asha typically stoops at angles that make it hard for the audience to see the entire stoop but she managed to perform a high and very fast stoop to the lure where everyone could see the entire dive recently. Asha is only two years old but is already a fantastic little falcon and we can’t wait to see her improve over the years! Our handsome Peregrine, Flynn is getting ready to start training again. He recently got fitted with all new equipment and his beak was coped (filed into shape) to get him ready for his new flying season. After enjoying some time off and a good moult, we look forward to seeing this boy in the sky again! #flynn #peregrinefalcon #peregrine #falcoperegrinus #falcon #falco #fastestanimalintheworld #worldofwings #birdofpreycentre #dayout #cumbernauld #scotland

The Crow family (Corvids) are omnivores which means that they eat a mixture of food types including both meat and plant matter. The African Pied Crow is no different and so Guinness is supplied with a selection of foods on a day to day basis. Here are some of the treats that Guinness enjoys which include chicken, beef, grapes, hazelnuts and some pellets. We also supplement other fruits, meats, nuts and insects into his diet. #guinness #africanpiedcrow #corvusalbus #crow #raven #corvid #corvidae #diet #omnivore #worldofwings #birdofpreycentre #dayout #cumbernauld #scotland
