Crosby team wins District Quiz. Yet again the District Quiz, brilliantly organised by Mike and the Lancaster and Morecambe crew, was held at the Lancil Sports Club, with hotpot to finish the afternoon. It was, as usual, a great afternoon catching up with friends from all over who had to suffer (enjoy?) Mike's jokes as well as answer some tantalising questions. One of the Crosby teams won by just one point separating the top three team, their other team gave a very good showing and finished just five points behind the winners.. Lion President David is seen receiving the quiz shield from District Governor Sue.

Last Saturday (28 January) saw many of the club members and partners enjoying a Burns Supper complete with ode 'To a haggis' delivered in an appalling pseudo Scots accent, followed by haggis. neeps an' tatties, then oatcakes and cheese helped down with a 'wee dram' or two. The social side of our club is just as important as our service as this keeps the club members in contact with each other in a context other than 'work' and allows those members who cannot always participate in projects to continue to be in touch and part of the club. A good evening was had by all.

A very busy day on Saturday collectng Christmas trees on behalf of St Joseph's Hospice (Jospice). Well over 100 trees collected by the two teams helped by three volunteers. Exhausting day but worthwhile as a service to support the Hospice and help them raise money to keep up their good work. Bacon butties and hot drinks provided and helped fuel the work!

Lovely evening out at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall at the 'Spirit of Christmas' concert. Some wonderful singing from the Phil choir and their Youth choir (as well as audience participation), I've never heard the piano accordian playing classical music before but the special guest, Ksenija Sidorova from Latvia, was extraordinary. Evening topped off by mince pies and a 'wee dram' at LP David and Lynne's. Our next 'gig' is tree collection on behalf of St Joseph's Hospice in the New Year. Merry Christmas and a Happy and Peaceful New Year to all from Crosby & District Lions.

Our last appearance this year was at Tesco, Litherland, where Santa put in an appearance along with his yet again slightly re-vamped sleigh allowing a better view of Dasher. Further upgrades are planned for next year as Santa has to keep up with the times. Young Holly had the extra thrill of being able to see life from Santa's seat, but due to the recently upgraded North Pole H&S regulations she wasn't able to fly with him!
After a rather wet night last night we have now finished the Santa rounds of Bootle. As usual there were plenty of people out to see him, both young and old, all with big smiles on their faces - and that was just the collectors. A big thank you goes to all the collectors who supported the Crosby Lions on their travels, but an especially big thank you to the generous people of Bootle for their contributions to our funds. We will be helping and supporting many people locally with these funds. The Santa float will be at Asda in Bootle this afternoon between 4pm and 8pm and at Litherland Tesco on Sunday 10am to 4pm for those that missed him on his rounds.
Another busy weekend for the Lions. Yesterday Santa visited Nazareth House in Crosby - a home for the elderly - distributing presents and good cheer to the residents. They all had their photo taken individually with Santa and will receive complementary prints on Monday. Santa also found time to speak to the children that were attending the Christmas Fair being held at the home at the same time. Today sees the Lions supporting St Joseph's Hospice (locally known as Jospice) helping out at the Light up a Life service by organising parking. Anyone intending to go to the service should be aware that it is only blue badge holders and invited guests that are allowed to park next to the house due to limited parking spaces. All others must find parking on the roadside on Ince Road and walk down the drive.

Another good night out with Santa. Crowds on many street corners welcoming him to the area. Pity about the white-eye.
