Had a unique golfing experience while in Scotland. Played Hickory Golf at Kingarrock in St Andrew's. It is a specialty 9 hole course where we played with hickory shafted clubs and balls from the year 1898. Keith McColl is the resident golf expert who gave us a golf history lesson before the start up of our round. In the pix below, I had just used my "niblick" to chip on the green after a rather good approach using my "mashie". If you plan a golf trip to St Andrew's ... a round at Kingarrock would be highly recommended.

So who was the greatest Hickory era golfer of all time ? Without question it was the man we like to call our Bobby (Robert Tyre Jones Jr) ...revered as much for his honesty and integrity as he was for his golfing ability he was a very special man who played the game he loved for the love of the game and never for money nor fame ! Bobby Jones loved St Andrews and The Old Course ....when he retired in 1930 at the very peak of his career he had a vision to create a great golf course in his own homeland and a great tournament to rival The Open that he had captured no less than 3 times ...the course was Augusta and it would be his homage to The Old Course ...the tournament is of course The Masters .
