Starting to pull fibre around Cultybraggan Camp this weekend. One of the hut tenants brought along a couple of willing volunteers. Looks like they're just the right size for the pits... 😂
An appeal for help from one of our neighbours. Please help if you can. Although some of the huts at Cultybraggan are occupied by businesses, others, like this one, are run by charities or volunteers and depend entirely on grants and donations. This one is a worthy cause to tell the history of Cultybraggan Camp to current and future generations.
Do you live in or near Comrie, but are unable to get Superfast Broadband from BT because you're too far from the nearest 'Green Cab'? Can you see our tower from your house? We're hoping to be able to build a Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) network in the surrounding areas at some stage (much as we're doing for Balquhidder Community Broadband), but we've been approached by a local resident about the possibility of providing a fixed wireless solution fed from the top of our tower in the interim. Would you be interested too? If so, please drop us an email to sales@bogons.net. If there's enough interest, we'll try to make it happen!
Many thanks to Ian Reid Contracts for stripping the excess soil off our carpark this week! Over the last 20 years since the MOD left the bunker, about 6" of soil had built up on top of the concrete-block base - and whenever it rains, it turns to mud. Far too many people have got their vehicles stuck in the mud (including myself!), so we figured the soil had to go! The grass should grow back through the concrete-block base over the coming months, but we're left with a nice solid surface to drive and park on.
Caught the sun setting at the bunker this evening...
BT back in the Bunker again this week, commissioning the 2nd 100G circuit - this one heads off to Edinburgh (the other 100G circuit goes to Glasgow).
BT have been busy this week installing more fibre to Edinburgh for our second path out of the Bunker. Before they could pull in the fibre, they had to find all the manholes - and one of them was found under about a metre of soil!
Lovely early morning view from the Bunker today. Bit of frost on the ground, and sun rising on the hills.
First 100Gbps path to the bunker now live! Also this week, we've engaged with a local groundworks contractor to help us with the laying of ductwork to provide fibre-to-the-hut Internet services around Cultybraggan.
BT (Openreach) were back in the Bunker today to test the first fibre link all the way to Glasgow. They were on site for several hours, but it's all looking good!
Clear blue sky, and signs of snow on the mountains, but proper cold at the Bunker this morning. -8°C according to our outside thermometer...
