ESSEX v CHESHIRE The annual challenge between the Essex and Cheshire Schools took place on Sunday; always a keenly contested match due to the bragging rights on offer. As current holders of the silverware we were keen to hold onto the title. There were a total of 19 singles matches, meaning a minimum of 10 points were needed by either side to gain victory. The day started wet, but by the time the first group were ready to tee-off, the clouds had gone and the sun had returned once again. Our students were impressive at the top end of the order with James Mack and Louis Martin winning with four holes to spare. Liam Debattista won the battle of the captains winning one up after being two down with three to play, and Ethan Snutch had an extremely close match finishing 1 up when there was no more than this between the players all day. Eve Clarke had a good come back from being two down early to win 2 & 1. Fantastic performance from Imogen Leeder who won both her matches with an impressive performance. However, this was not enough for Essex to retain the lead and by the narrowest of margins (10-9) Cheshire took the trophy from us this year. Congratulations to the Cheshire school, it was fantastic to see the match played with such good sportsmanship, the students showed some real competitive spirit and represented their schools with distinction. Well played all.
