Compulsory Microchipping - FAQs • Petlog

** Microchipping laws ** As you may or may not be aware, the laws about microchips have changed. It is important that dog owners are aware as not following these laws can leave you with a hefty fine! From the 6th April 2016, it will be a legal requirement for dogs over 8 weeks without a docked tail to be microchipped. All details, address etc must be kept up to date. This is the keeper’s responsibility. This means your dog should be microchipped no later than their first vaccination. If you have rescued or bought a dog, it is your responsibility to make sure that the details on the microchip are kept up to date. If you own a dog who had its tail docked as a puppy (certified working dog) the microchip must be placed by the time he is 3 months old. Despite these laws your dogs must still wear a collar and tag in a public place. Please call us in Chippenham on 01249 659413 to book an appointment to have your pets microchip checked or placed.
