If you took part in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch, today is the last chance to send in your results which will be announced towards the end of March.

Yesterday was the start of the BTO's National Bird Nesting Box Week. You may have noticed birds checking out your nest box for a prospective nest site. If you haven't got a nest box we supply multi-purpose ones with a convertible front to accommodate different species. Next weekend the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch takes place over three days from the 27th to 29th January. It began almost 40 years ago and is a chance to count the number of bird species visiting your garden during one hour. Results from around the country provide vital information about our garden bird populations and build up a picture of the most common visitors to our gardens at this time of year. For example, surveys have shown that greenfinch numbers in the UK have dropped by 66% during the last ten years but wren numbers have increased by a whopping 91% in England. With significant snowfall forecast for this Sunday please don't forget your garden birds. Keep the feeders clean (we sell special brushes for this) and topped up. Clear the birdtable of any snow and ensure there is a fresh supply of clean drinking water. One bird that normally visits 40% of gardens in the winter months is the coal tit however this year has seen an exceptional number of these tiny birds visiting 70% of gardens in the UK so this is just one of many species that will benefit from maintaining your feeders over the winter.
