We have several music events coming up at Balcarras: Sunday 25th March - The Chamber Choir will be singing in the Music for Youth regional event. They will perform sometime between 12pm and 3pm in Cheltenham Town Hall. Tuesday 27th March - Our spring concert is taking place in the school hall from 7pm. Performances will take place from some of our GCSE music students and all of our AS and A-Level music students.This is in informal night which should end around 8.30pm. Refreshments will be provided by expedition groups. Sunday 6th May - Balcajazz will be playing as part of Jazz It Up! This is part of the Cheltenham Jazz Festival fringe events. They will be performing from 10.30am-10.55am on the Free Stage in Montpellier Gardens.

A reminder to parents of years 10/11/12/13 that there is a session on helping your children to revise at 6.30pm in the hall tomorrow.

Dr Jones finished a fascinating week of STEMlunchtime lectures with a pig pluck dissection on Friday. Thank you to all our in house and guest lecturers who shared their expertise with us this week.

As part of STEM week 28 year 9s took part in a #bloodhoundforschools project where they designed their own rocket powered car. Thank you to Swansea University and their bloodhound SSC ambassadors who ran the workshop.

STEM continued with a ‘Physics of flight’ workshop for Y9 today where students designed and constructed gliders to see who could get theirs to travel the furthest. The winning team managed to get their glider to travel 11.7m!

STEM week continued today with a Year 7 'chemistry show' with Dr Sharp who explained things from how man first discovered fire to how rockets are launched.

STEM week was ‘on fire’ today. Pupils enjoyed the start to a week full of experiments and demonstrations.

Last week Superdry held its first apprenticeship event which was a great success and they had some fantastic feedback from students and parents. Two of our year 13 students attended - Emma Tyler and Isobel Evans. Superdry hope to host more of these events on an even bigger scale in the future. To celebrate International Women’s Day, Kohler Mira invited a group of Year 9 students to their head office to provide insight into business, increase awareness of the opportunities and success of women at Kohler Mira and give engaged female students the opportunity to meet with other likeminded females from other local schools. They provided a site tour, ran a team-building activity and hosted a speed-networking session where the girls were able to speak to successful and inspirational women from across the business. Balcarras alongside students from Bournside, Pittville and All Saints had a fantastic morning and learnt lots about the different roles throughout the business.
