The Dog Inn at Belthorn Community Freehouse
Description
The Dog Inn is Lancashire`s first community owned pub. The villagers of Belthorn formed an action group and managed to save their last village pub The Dog inn is believed to of stood for over 300 years, although no exact date has been found. The Dog Inn became lancashires` first community pub following a campaign by villagers to save their last village pub from developers. The pub had been bought by Ribble Valley Luxury Homes Ltd for development into apartments. The villagers approached the new owner and he agreed to sell. With a two month time frame to raise the money, a community benefit society was formed and shares sold. Enough money was raised to buy the pub and with the help of volunteers the share money paid for renovations. The pub now includes a café, a small shop, restaurant and meeting rooms.
