Clients frequently ask us when we recommend having lip filler top ups. So here’s Shaun’s advice for keeping your pout fresh and cost effective. All major manufacturers say their fillers last 6 to 9 months. Realistically I find that lip fillers tend to last 6 months (ish) at the most, no matter which brand you use, this is backed up by scientific research papers and major aesthetics authors. For simplicity let’s say theoretically lip fillers degrade the same amount per day for 6 months. That means at 3 months your body has absorbed 50% of the original filler. As an example, if you have 1ml on the 1st of January, your lip fillers will have reduced by 0.5ml by the end of March (or quicker if you’ve a fast metabolism). This is really noticeable and you’ll start to think all your filler has gone. By June your body will have absorbed most of the lip filler. So my advice is, initially get to the lip size you like and then top it up by 50% every 3 to 4 months (0.5ml in the example above). Clients who do this seem to have the least issues with lumps and bumps and enjoy longer lasting results. Try to find the stiffest fillers your lips will accept without lumps and bumps, not all lips can handle 24mg/ml. Then find that filler at the cheapest price you can because you’ll need to refill 3 to 4 times per year. Why should you trust this advice? Shaun completes over 1000 lip procedures per year and has used most major brands from our base filler Uma Jeunesse to the most expensive Juvederm Volift, so he knows his fillers. Thanks for reading.
