We are a friendly and fun museum in Bodmin, Cornwall.
We hold events and activities throughout the year.
Child and dog friendly.
Groups welcome. Cornwall’s Regimental Museum is a friendly and fun museum in Bodmin, Cornwall. We hold all kinds of events and activities on selected dates all year round, and welcome all visitors, including groups, children, and even well behaved dogs!

We are recognised as probably the finest Military Museum in the South West of England. As well as seeing our collections, come and explore our home, Bodmin Keep, which is a Grade II listed building, constructed at the time of the Napoleonic threats.  Bodmin Keep was the home of Cornwall's Military life for over 150 years, and still has original features such as the great stone staircases and original fireplaces. You can even experience our Cold-War era military police cell!

Covering a period between 1702 until 2007, the museum's displays tell the stories of the Cornwall Volunteers and Volunteer Militia, the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry (DCLI), and we are extremely proud and honoured to be home to the National Collection of the Light Infantry (LI).

A fine collection of medals, weapons, uniforms, paintings and artefacts (as well as a few surprises in the collection!) are clearly displayed and will appeal to all age groups, enhancing and bringing to life much of the country’s history covered in the National Curriculum. The museum has an extensive library and archive and a team of research volunteers who are proud to help over 300 families per year discover their military family history.

Bodmin Keep is located on Lostwithiel Road, 100 yds from the Bodmin and Wenford Railway which was built to service the Barracks. Visitors to the steam railway receive up to 40% off museum entry with a valid ticket. For other admission rates and concessions please see our website.

We are a dog friendly museum!

Come along to our second Volunteer Open Day and see how you can get involved. Volunteering at Cornwall’s Regimental Museum is a fantastic way to meet new people, learn new skills, and support a local charity. Visitor Services Volunteer Linda says: "I am generally a gregarious person and this role at the reception desk/shop allowed me to meet & greet visitors, chat about the museum or anything else & at the same time give me a sense of ‘belonging’. The team of staff & volunteers are so friendly, supportive and knowledgeable. I have found volunteering so fulfilling." There are a wide variety of roles available – everything from events & marketing, to historical research, even sewing! If you have a specific skill or interest that you think could be an asset to us, get in touch or come along! Pop in anytime between 2pm and 4pm on Monday 4th June (or Saturday 10th March) for a cuppa and a chat, and meet some of our friendly team. If you’d like to find out more, or if you’d be interested but can’t make it on these dates, give us a call on 01208 72810 or email volunteering@cornwalls-regimentalmuseum.org Visit the website to find out more: http://ow.ly/6aH030hly1u

For one night only, a special ‘Last Night of the Proms’ performance in St Petroc’s Church will see Lostwithiel Town Band once again assuming its old role as the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry T.A. Band. This concert will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the historic band of the famous Cornish Regiment, featuring two of its original members. Tickets are £10, available from Cornwall's Regimental Museum in advance, or can be purchased on the door. There is free parking in Priory Car Park after 6pm. The concert is kindly being held to raise funds for Cornwall’s Regimental Museum, which is housed in Bodmin Keep, the historic home of the DCLI. The museum is a small, registered charity (no. 1174375), and every penny raised on behalf of the museum will go towards securing the future of the museum, caring for the collections and telling our soldiers’ stories. Can you help us to improve the Harry Patch display? Housed in the museum's First World War gallery is a very special display dedicated to Harry Patch – the last survivor of the trenches. Henry John Patch was a member of the Duke Of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, and became known as 'The Last Fighting Tommy', outliving all other British WW1 soldiers. He died in 2009 at the age of 111. As part of the museum’s First World War commemorations, we want to improve this special display, which includes Harry's medals and a plaque donated by Great Western Railway who named locomotive 43 172 in his honour. This project will cost £2,000 and we would like to ask our supporters to help us to raise the funds needed and reach our target in good time for the 2018 armistice centenary. You can read more about our plans on our website, and if you'd like to make a donation towards the display, the link to make an online donation is below in the comments.
