GCSE Results Day 2019

Students and staff at Ormiston SWB Academy in Bilston are celebrating today after collecting their GCSE results – with nearly half of all students achieving Grade 4 or above in English and maths. The academy also saw a significant increase in the number of students achieving Grade 5 or above in English and maths. (Defined by the Government as a “strong pass”). Overall, more than 46 per cent of students achieved a Grade 4 or above in both English and maths – with a 4 the new grade set by the Government as a pass. Overall 18 students achieved the highest accolade of Grade 9 GCSE and 34 students achieved the highest accolade of Distinction Star. There were some outstanding individual performances: Luana Nascimento achieved 4 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s, 2 grade 7 Kieran Roper achieved 3 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s, 1 grade 7 Myra Khan achieved 3 grade 9s, 1 grade 8s, 3 grade 7 Sarah Mensah achieved 2 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s, 1 grade 7 Purubi Pabla achieved 2 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s, 1 grade 7 Rod Hughes, Principal of Ormiston SWB Academy, said: “We are delighted that students at Ormiston SWB continue to make strong progress and I’m pleased and incredibly proud of all our students, who have worked so hard to get the grades they need and deserve.” “Against a backdrop of new tougher exams and new grading systems, we have focussed on supporting individual student needs. We set high expectations for our students and staff and work hard to ensure that every student at SWB fulfils their potential.” “I would like to congratulate all students picking up their grades today. Michael's Results are in...

Michael Thabet has been an amazing exchange student from Hungary. He is an outstanding young man with a hard working ethic. He has been a great asset to 6th form and has been involved in assemblies, supported in German lessons with Year 11 and got involved with Sixth Form ideas and plans. He speaks Hungarian, German and Arabic and his English is amazing. He will be sitting a English ESOL exam in July back in Hungary. He is our first Exchange student to take A levels with us, and here he finally reveals his results for AS Physics and A Level German. He is a polite and gentle young man, a true pleasure to have in our 6th form. His future career path is to become a Pilot. We all wish him the best in the future and please keep in touch!
