We are very excited to announce May's workshops, all of our workshops during May are focusing on make do and mend and recycling, as part of the "Mend it May" movement. This is an annual happening, where instead of buying new, we try and mend what we have, reuse textiles in new projects and use up our existing craft supplies. Our workshops on this subject are a mosaic trivit with Juliette Hayward Mosaics where we will use broken crockery, tiles and glass. A crochet rose corsage with Pod Cuts and Crafts where we will use yarn left over from previous projects. A beautiful Liberty print butterfly patch (or two) with the lovely Heather Everitt Embroidery you can bring a garment that needs patching or make your butterfly on a piece of denim. To finish off the month I will be teaching a Boro workshop where I will teach the art of Japanese visible darning, this is a very addictive stitching technique with many variations. Please get in touch for more details or to book a place 😊
We are closed today - back on Saturday 😊
It was a very busy week at The MaGpiE's Nest, we had three workshops, finishing up the week on Sunday with this fantastic embroidery workshop with Heather Everitt Embroidery. Yes I said SUNDAY! We had a lovely time cutting, sticking and stitching, chatting, tea drinking and cake eating, as usual the three hours just FLEW by. I'd like to say a huge thank you to all the lovely ladies who came along and were so nice about me rescheduling the class and of course to Heather for her wonderful teaching and for giving up her Sunday. If you're sad you missed out on this class we have more classes coming up with Heather, including a beautiful butterfly as part of our "Mend it May" event, please get in touch for more details or to book a place 😊
Another fantastic workshop with the lovely Liz Wilde of Little Pilton Printing Press. Today we learnt the art of dry point etching, a fantastic printing technique, this is very different to lino printing which Liz also teaches with us, I really love this technique, so many possibilities! Thank you to all our lovely students for coming along and of course to Liz for the fantastic teaching, Liz will be coming back in June for a new class, watch out for news on that class soon :)
I know it is only March but i'm so excited about this workshop I couldn't wait any longer and I just had to announce it now! On Saturday, 16th of June we will be welcoming Vicki of Eirlys & May Illustration to the shop and she will be teaching us the art of scraperboard, I have been admiring Vicki's work for sometime on the internet, her art work is amazing and the flowers and animals so realistic, do go and check out her page. Vicki will bring along pre-cut hearts and templates to trace, or you are welcome to use your own art work, and will guide us through the process of etching our designs and painting our finished designs, the finished items will be given a coat of spray varnish before you leave. The class is priced at £25 plus £4 for materials, please get in touch for more details or to book a place :)
We had another great "Get to know your sewing machine" workshop with Sarah from Rowan Tree Studio today. Six lovely ladies all squeezed in to my workshop! Get in touch to join the waiting list for the next class :) Thank-you for coming ladies and for the expert teaching Sarah :) *photo stolen from Sarah's Instagram
I'm afraid Crochet Social is not on this month, I have three workshops running this week, on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday plus my running training on three nights, so have decided to drop Crochet Social this time, sorry for any inconvenience. We still have some space on the Dry Point Etching Class, get in touch if you're interested :)
Yesterday at The MaGpiE's Nest we made a beautiful herd of seahorses with Juliette Hayward Mosaics. It was a fun class with lots of lovely students, lots of laughs and some beautiful seahorses created. Thank you for the great teaching Juliette and thanks to all the lovely students for coming along. Our next workshop with Juliette will be on Saturday, 5th, May where will make a trivet as part of our Mend it May event, where we will be make do and mending, recycling and using what we've already got, so save any crockery fatalities! If you had your heart set on a seahorse get in touch with Juliette she runs mini workshops in her unit opposite us 😊
Come along and learn to make a crocheted corsage with Beckie Parsons. This three hour class is priced at £25 per person, bring along some DK wool from your stash.
