Mobility. Flow. Inversions. Saturday 31st August 2pm-4pm Flow Studio, Hill St. This workshop will blend mobility and Vinyasa Flow yoga, steering towards optional playful inversions. It encompasses Mark's passion for movement and wellness practices, as he has introduced more lighthearted mobility maintenance techniques into his yoga classes in recent years. This approach allows students to actively increase their range of motion and overall strength. Improved motor control and awakened muscles and joints make for a mindful and complimentary inversion practice, while mobility usually targets restricted muscle tissue. If you live with limited movement patterns or have hard to reach knots or niggles, this is the workshop for you. Together We Flow⠀ Meet Jen Lea⠀ ⠀ I put off trying yoga for years before I finally stepped on the mat. A work colleague had recommended I try it as I was running and cycling at the time and she thought I would enjoy it. But I didn’t think that I was a “spiritual” person and had many assumptions about not only what yoga was but also who I was.⠀ Years later when I eventually found myself in a beginners yoga class it was because anxiety and a series of life events had led to me feeling constantly observed, watched, judged. My self confidence was rock bottom and I had completely lost touch with any instinct or intuition I might have had. I was paranoid, insecure and fragile. I didn’t want to leave the house and didn’t enjoy being in social situations. I needed something that belonged only to me, where I wouldn't know anyone and where I was answerable only to myself, where I didn't have to hide behind humour and maintain a mask of OK-ness. My space. No one else’s. That one hour a week on a yoga mat became that space.⠀ ⠀ Eventually I wanted more. One class became two which turned into multiple classes, workshops and teacher training in a variety of studios. This is how I found Flow, which is now the only studio I visit in Belfast. The variety of classes, styles and teachers means there is always a space for whatever mood I'm in or what my current needs are. My practice has become a constant source of stillness that creates so much space and comfort in my life. It has not only made me stronger and more flexible physically, but also mentally and emotionally. I feel more resilient, braver and content since I took that first step on to a mat.⠀ If I was to offer one piece of advice to anyone thinking of beginning a yoga practice it would be that there is no prescribed way you have to be to start or practice. You don't have to be athletically fit. You don't have to be slim. You don't have to be able to touch your toes. You don't have to be "spiritual". You don't have to believe in energies and chakras. You don't have to be anything. With time you eventually realise that your practice is yours, and the space belongs to you. All you have to do is take that first step. Explore the Madyha Friday 30th August 5:30- 7:30pm Flow Studio, Hill St Madhya in Sanskrit means ‘the middle’ or ‘the space in between.' Join Eleanor Steane and Rodger Montgomery (The Sometime) for a unique practice to explore the subtle points of stillness that exist between our breaths, thoughts, movements and postures. By taking time to pause we naturally become more aware, allowing us to discover how to deepen more fully into quiet softness and enjoy the peace that arises. In life and in practice we tend to bypass the moments to embrace stillness in favour of doing, achieving and attaining. This practice will provide a contemplative experience in which to dive in, cultivate new ways of being and rest in the spaces in between. The musical curation will be inspired by the Madhya, with warm, welcoming and meditative sounds to support your practice and nourish these moments of finding yourself.
