Description
Towell House is a large residential home at the corner of Kings Road and Knock dual carriageway in East Belfast.
Altogether the home caters for 90 residents. TOWELL HOUSE
A BRIEF HISTORY
In the early 1950’s the late David Towell gifted a sum of money to The Towell Building Trust Ltd with the express purpose of opening a residential care home for older people of limited means.
Mr Towell was born in Donacloney, County Down in March 1872. As a young man he moved to London and eventually established several successful tailoring business outlets. On retirement in 1946 Mr Towell and his wife continued their deep interest in social issues, contributing generously to a number of charities. They also decided to support the building of a residential care home in Northern Ireland and gifted funds to the Towell Trust which was formed to build what became known as Towell House.
The Home was officially opened on 2nd October 1958 by the Lady Wakehurst, wife of the then Governor of Northern Ireland. Towell House was the first purpose built home of its kind in Belfast. Sadly, due to declining health, neither Mr Towell nor his wife, who pre-deceased him, were able to visit the Home but Mr Towell maintained an eager interest in the Home until his death in November 1960.
The Home has now operated most successfully for over fifty years – a new wing was opened in 1998 and the current Board of Directors are presently considering the future development of Towell House.
The home has enjoyed another extension to the property with the erection of a delivery and storage facility. This has been a welcome addition, improving the front entrance for residents and visitors.

Our Fire Risk Assessor and Fire Training provider at Fire Risk Solutions N.I. asked us to take part in a promotional video of the services he provides to business. Our wonderful team carried out a fire evacuation/fire drill for the video and we would like to thank both staff and residents for their patience and good will taking part. They did it on the first take. Well done to everyone involved. Thanks also to Gary Davison from Pro-Motion Productions. This is his second time videoing at Towell House.

Alan Tipping our Facilities Manager has entered into the Comber TT Soap Box Race being held this Saturday. He built his vehicle from scratch and replicated his work van.
