Just out of interest, and particularly useful for budding archaeologists, there is an online LIDAR map of the UK. Barnoldswick is one of the areas covered! See link: https://houseprices.io/lab/lidar/map?ref=SD87724635

Today we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Universal Suffrage in the UK. Our next illustrated talk - Respectable Rebels - celebrates three local women who made a significant contribution to it's achievement and implementation. The talk will be by our very own Harold Hoggarth, a seasoned veteran on the lecture circuit and a well respected local historian. Looking forward to another full house!

Due to illness, our talk on the Victorian Workhouse System has had to be cancelled, however, our highly knowledgable (and eminent local historian) programme secretary - Mr Derek Clabburn - will be filling the breech and giving a talk about Barnoldswick's Houses. Sure to be an entertaining lecture, the meeting will be given over to an open discussion and 'question and answer' session. May we take this opportunity to wish Mr Peter Parks a speedy recovery and hope to see him at a future event.

I see an artist called Dan Bell has drawn a 'Tolkienised' map of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Nice to see Barnoldswick and Earby appearing on the map but not quite sure how he's spelt Barnoldswick!!!

A request from a Canadian visitor to the site. Can anybody help Malcolm? "Back in the late 1940's/early 50's I attended Eshton Hall School in Gargrave and our P.T. teacher and boxing coach was Frank Bell, our 'Gentle Giant'. It was during that time that he famously knocked out Tommy Farr. From Youtube etc I have watched that fight and understand that he is still living in Barnoldswick at age 92! I have lived in Canada for the past 40 years and I would like to write to him but he is not listed in the phone directory. Please can anyone assist me?" Another find - A memorial Card for RMS Titanic issued by Nelson Co-Op Society undertakers. Did the sale of these cards go towards helping the survivors? Nicely printed with a metallic silver border.

Our chairman, David Steele, has been trawling through his collection and came up with this beauty. A 'Barnoldswick & District Motor Club' bar badge. Any information on this club would be most welcome.
