OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FOR IMAGE OF THE YEAR 2016: Local Photographer Hannah Merrett achieves national acclaim! Hannah Merrett Photography, based in Abergavenny, has reached the Final of the fiercely contested Guild of Photographers Image of the Year Competition. The Guild is a highly respected UK based association for photographers which has members from overseas as well. Each year it runs an online monthly photographic competition with awards being given each month to the very best of the entries. During the course of 2016, the competition attracted 10,000 entries in 4 categories, and this week the Guild’s Judges have selected just 10 images in the various genres from the very best of the monthly entries, to go forward to the annual Final. Hannah has not one but two images in the Top Ten! Guild Director Lesley Thirsk said “One of the Guild’s aims is to drive standards and creativity amongst photographers. Our monthly competition certainly does that, for the standard of the entries we see each month is quite staggering. To have an image recognised by the Guild in the monthly competition is difficult enough, so to have two images selected as being in the best 10 in a category for the end of year Final is a quite remarkable achievement, and shows just how talented a photographer Hannah is” Hannah said “2016 was such a year of growth for my business, focusing particularly on the Baby and Toddler genre. To receive news from The Guild that two of my images in this category have reached the final is incredible. I strive to give families I visit across South East Wales the best possible images and all-round experience when they book their little ones in for a photo shoot with me, and entering The Guild’s national competition is one of the ways I constantly build upon my skills and knowledge.” Hannah’s images along with the others will now be printed ready for the Competition Final later in January, and the overall winner will be announced at a lavish Awards night in a magnificent Jacobean mansion in Cheshire on 4th February. Many of you will have seen gorgeous Azariah featured on this page before. I have had the pleasure of photographing her twice last year (for her 1st Birthday and for a Christmas Mini Session). I'll shortly be returning to capture her 2nd Birthday. This little girl is amazing, you could easily believe her to be a year or two older because of how she listens and responds to the camera. An absolute star, and I'm delighted to share these photos of her which won awards at the end of 2016 with the Guild of Photographers. Well done Azariah!

The BEST end to an exciting and busy year here at Hannah Merrett Photography. I have received an email from The Guild of Photographers letting me know that TWO of my images are in the TOP 10 for BABY AND TODDLER IMAGE OF THE YEAR 2016. The Guild receive over 10,000 entries over the year, so to have two images in the Top 10 for this highly competitive category has blown me away. Thank you to ALL the wonderful families I have worked with this year... It has been my pleasure to get to know all of you and to give you beautiful images to remember precious moments with your little ones. Both the images selected for the Top 10 were from 'Sitter Sessions' - as many of you know, these are my absolute favourite sessions, taken when babies are around 6-8 months of age. This age-range is fantastic to work with... Their little personalities are beginning to shine through, and we capture such a range of different looks and emotions! My sessions for 2017 are booking up into March/April at the moment - if you would like to book-in for the early part of the year please get in touch ASAP either via this page or my website. All packages and prices can be found on my website, and bookings made now will be with my current prices. A £30 Booking Fee secures your slot in the diary. Personal Post: When I'm away from my camera I also teach piano at The Music Box. Today we had our Junior Christmas Concert, raising funds for Ty Hafen Children's Hospice. A proud moment for me as my girls performed their first ever duet, having just started lessons in September - that's their teacher (and my friend!), keeping a watchful eye in the video! Such a lovely afternoon, and I was proud not only of my girls but each and every child I teach... It takes courage to perform in front of others, and we had a packed hall of over 100 people today! .... and so begins the wind down to Christmas... I hope you're all enjoying the festivities x
