EWS Qualifier 3Laender Enduro Race - Day 2 Race Recap The dust has finally settled on day two and the rain has set in… time to kick back, rest the weary arms and legs and look back on what was another amazing outing for the RideProgression Coaching Enduro Team. Day two saw us tackle the brutal Haideralm Trail as well as some very physical pedally trails in between Schöneben and Haideralm. The phrase commonly heard that day was “tendenziell bergab” or “der Start ist höher als das Ziel”. Just one look at the final results in the Open Men category would confirm how demanding day 2 would become, out of 154 Riders that started day two only 137 would be able to complete all the stages. For day two unknown to us, the Race Committee decided to merge and change the Men Solo and Men Masters categories. This meant that suddenly Tobias Steinbach and Oli Makosch found themselves in an even more competitive field of racers. Tobias Steinbach being the fastest of our team on Day 1 was out the door pretty early to ensure he did not encounter any slow traffic on trail. Needless to say, the man was on a mission 😉 Bernie Meir and Oli Makosch decided to skip their start times and team up with Susi Rabe, who started a little later. It was extremely difficult to get into the “flow” on day two, as there were long waits at the lifts during stages and “not enough” uphill transfers to get into that all-important the pedal mode. Tobias Steinbach was first to complete all the stages and having no mechanicals and only a few minor mistakes managed to secure an amazing 53rd place at the end of the day. We are totally stoked on this as this result comes after a very difficult offseason. Susanne Rabe confirmed her pace and skill this weekend by slotting comfortably into 7th position overall after the day was done. Her second day would be plagued by a few minor mishaps and what can be only called a major slam on the last stage resulting in her finishing the stage but being unable to shift and dealing crooked brake lever. Oli Makosch having secured a best ever day one result played it a little too safe on day two and paid the price. He finished 73rd in the overall standings after suffering a crash on Haideralm and riding down with twisted bars. Being the senior racing gentleman on the team it is still a respectable result but definitely not what he wanted at the end of the day. Bernhard Meir, who we considered to be the loosest “berm destroying rider” we know was still suffering from a lingering cold/flu and sadly was not able to show us the same amazing riding that we saw from him in Latsch. But as they say “Cometh the hour, cometh the Man” Bernie rallied and showed that the spirit of Enduro was stronger than ever. After taking a race ending rock strike to his rear mech hanger right at the start of stage 8, he decided to hike a bike the whole stage. He then completed the final stage chainless – “Gwinner style”. What a true legend... and still did not come in last!!! The final tally for the RideProgression Coaching Enduro Team for this race event is: 7th Susanne Rabe – Open Women 53rd Tobias Steinbach – Open Men 73rd Oliver Makosch – Open Men 133rd Bernhard Meir – Open Men Special thanks to Mountainthrill AG for keeping our bikes rolling and 27turns for always sorting us out with that rad Joystick Bicycle Components gear.
