Zurich Expats 2012
Description
By focusing on public events and social gatherings in and around Zurich, we hope to bring an awareness of the "Expat Experience" and to contribute POSITIVELY to the SWISS LIFESTYLE as well. As "Auslanders" in Switzerland, we've found that there are several, country-specific cultural celebrations (holidays and sporting events) that just are not given the proper love & attention that we are accustomed to back in our homeland(s). And since the Canton of Zurich is comprised of just over 30% foreign nationals, all with diverse backgrounds and cultural heritages, we felt that it was time for us to unite. Thus, Züri Expats was formed to address this ongoing challenge.
"We're Loud and we're Proud!" Let's celebrate! Let's Party!
What type of events shall we focus on for the summer of 2012? As German & Italian events have been well-covered elsewhere, that will not be this group' focus. We kicked things off with an official St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl, embracing several celebrations of the Irish Pubs of Zurich. Our first sponsored event is the upcomingDutch Heineken Beach BBQ Party at lakeside & UEFA NL Match Parade to Kaufleuten on june 9th.
Later in the summer, we're planning numerous social gatherings around international sporting events that are near & dear to our European hearts – Football and the Olympics! There is the European Football (Soccer) Championships, starting on June 8th. Visit the Euro Cup website <here> for match details. Then there's the Olympic Games in London, starting July 27th and running through August 12th. Visit the London Olympic Games Website <here> for highlights and schedules.
Changing Perceptions
Unlike some of the local press that's been written about Auslanders of late, we are not all criminals; we want to showcase the open and festive side to our many cultures. By focusing on public events and social gatherings in and around Zurich, we hope to bring an awareness of the "Expat Experience" and to contribute POSITIVELY to the SWISS LIFESTYLE as well. ALL are welcome to attend and contribute to this experience…whether you are Swiss or Auslander.
We look forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming events!
Sincerely, Züri Expats Club 2012
