His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgön Chetsang Rinpoche, one of the highest Buddhist spiritual leaders, with our partners from the NGO Nature Science Initiative during a visit to Dehradun today. The Rinpoche is holding the book "The Secret Garden", which we are helping to publish and distribute in schools of Uttarakhand. He is so taken with the book's ecological message that he wants a Tibetan-language version to be made for the children of Ladakh, and beyond! This may be the beginning of an amazing story of sharing nature knowledge and education across cultures... The incredible #education and #outreach team of our partner #NGO Nature Science Initiative is touring schools of rural #Uttarakhand to tell #children about the importance of preserving the #environment for future generations, and the effects of #waste on human and #animal #health. We're accompanying them to understand the #impact they are achieving with your donations, and it's wonderful! #Slowmotionprojects' first year of #volunteering all over #Asia will soon come to an end. We feel privileged to have worked in so many different places, and we're extraordinarily thankful to our local partners for their work every day, and of course to you all for making it all this possible through your support! We're always looking for volunteers to join our team, and achieve #sustainable #impact through environmental education. Wondering why we haven't been in touch for a little while? We weren't hibernating! Slow Motion Projects spent the last few weeks in #Bhutan, teaching on the topic of #socialmedia for the Bhutan Middle Management Hotel Program, a partnership between HWZ Hochschule für Wirtschaft Zürich, Tourism Council of Bhutan, and Royal Institute for Tourism and Hospitality. Tourism is amongst the main sources of income in Bhutan; and #SustainableTourism creates jobs, all the while preserving the beautiful nature in the country. #bmmhp #slowmotionprojects

Behind the construction of the #keystonexl pipeline, behind #Trump's election, there are people who do not understand how dangerous #fossilenergies are, how dangerous is a president who denies #climatechange and its impact on humans, even from his own country. #ResistOften, #resisttrump by talking to those people when they are around you. Make them aware, convince them. #yeswecan #Education #environmentaleducation #climatechangeawereness #environment #slowmotionprojects

At an altitude of 5500 metres, the air pressure is less than half of what it is at sea level. Breathing is hard, flying is harder. Yet we trekked up the Murubok valley in Ladakh, and sent our drone to record footage of the disappearing Himalayan glaciers. Once giants flowing down entire valleys, warming temperatures have reduced them to shadows of their former selves. The effects of climate change here are real, and lethal. Without glacial meltwater to irrigate the crops, the valleys are slowly turning into arid deserts. The Ladakhi people are proving resourceful though, building artificial glaciers and even a whole new Himalayan university to devise innovative new solutions to adapt to climate change. You too can contribute to making this dream come true: https://milaap.org/fundraisers/hial Perhaps all hope is not lost for these mountain people... #nature #environment #education #globalwarming #climatechange #NGO #volunteering #mountain #mountains #ice #glacier #mountaineering #getoutstayout #travel #Himalaya #Himalayas #drone #dronegram #DJI #Ladakh #India #slowmotionprojects

Trekking up to 4600m to make drone-assisted 3D models of an experimental artificial glacier... Just another Monday for Slow Motion Projects! Julley from remote Ladakh! These days, we are working with the SECMOL alternative school to teach climate change to Ladakhi children, and the Ice Stupa Artificial Glacier Project to help solve the Himalayan water crisis by building frozen mountain reservoirs. Talking about crazy ideas that might just work: Sonam Wangchuk is starting a crowdfunding campaign to create the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, which would be the world's first alternative mountain university: watch their wonderful launch video at https://milaap.org/fundraisers/hial #nature #environment #education #climatechange #globalwarming #NGO #mountains #getoutstayout #trek #travel #glacier #drone #ladakh #india #slowmotionprojects
