Swiss-Aquaponics works for people that are concerned about what they eat and where it comes from. we give Bio a new and applied meaning.
Aquaponics

Aquaponics is a cross between aquaculture and hydroponics. Aquaculture is growing fish and hydroponics is growing plants without soil. The main problem that aquaculturists have is dealing with fish waste and the main problem hydroculturists have is supplying plants with the necessary nutrients. By combining the two, aquaponics solves both these problems: fish waste is used as a source of nutrients for plants.

Edible tropical fish (such as the tasty tilapia, which we can supply) are reared in a pond. The pond water is pumped into a media bed or floating rafts where bacteria breaks down the fish waste (ammonia into nitrite and then nitrite into nitrate, i.e. plant food). The water then returns to the pond. This not only maintains high levels of water quality but also feeds plants, which would grow in the growing bed. Fruits, vegetables, micro-greens not only grow a lot faster than in traditional methods, but are a lot tastier. Your fruits and vegetables would also be organically grown, by definition. This is the case because the use of any pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, etc. would kill your fish. This might seem far-fetched but we have done it and so can you! With a few general guidelines you will find this way of growing food easy and highly rewarding.
Food, even organic food travels an average of 2,000km to get to your table, Sustainable?. in 50 years the area used for agriculture in  the world will no longer suffice for feeding the 9 billion people expected to live by then. Urban farming is not only sustainable and cheaper, but indispensable.

Aquaponics is no longer experimental, I started 10 years ago in Ireland, made all the mistakes but learned a lot, our exhibition system "Eco-Sphere" is still operational and can be visited in Ireland.
My basic system can be built in 2 different ways, a hybrid Aquaculture-Aquaponics , and a traditional aquaponics. It does not require more than 25 square meters and can produce up to 150kg of fish and 250 kg of vegetables and fruits per year.

It uses 90% less water than traditional gardening and a lot less energy, and the best of all, it has almost no Environmental footprint !
