What is Cloud 9?
Cloud 9 believes that many communities in poverty have the drive and interest in succeeding in the global economy. However there are obstacles that are preventing them from global participation. The three barriers that Cloud 9 aims to address are those of access to market, access to financing, and access to business and market knowledge.
Lack of access to finance is often seen as a major barrier to making a meaningful and income generating contribution to society. We offer communities willing to work with us access to finance through microcredit. We believe that microfinance is the most effective way to empower communities to generate income for themselves through entrepreneurial activities.
Access to markets willing to pay a fair price is a second major hurdle and is an area not traditionally dealt with by microfinance organisations. Cloud 9 builds relationships with distribution and retail channels looking for unique products from around the world. Using the Cloud 9 brand we give an identity to communities that would otherwise be lost in the global market, while also creating value for the end user.
Many communities who have the skills and ability to create quality unique products lack the knowledge of what is being demanded and what is required to compete in the global market. This lack of knowledge puts them at a disadvantage. Cloud 9 uses its retail partnerships to share knowledge of products that are both in demand and can provide a stable income. This helps both the marginalised community and the retailer to work together so that everyone benefits, including the final consumer.
