Michael Sailstorfer. Teppich Zürich 2. 2017 The work Teppich Zürich 2 (2017), is from a series of what at first appear to be simple carpets, woven from various hues of blue fabric. Produced in a typical manner to those used in many homes or apartments, these carpets allude to a domestic setting and create a sense of coziness, comfort, or calm. However, these carpets are fashioned from decommissioned Zürich police uniforms, which in turn create an entirely new understanding of material as it relates to the form the works take, as well as the possibility for social commentary. Almost immediately, our notion of sereneness is upended, as we are left to ponder questions of power and control.

Still looking for the perfect Christmas present this season? How about giving your loved ones a special work of art... JORINDE VOIGT Stress + Freiheit ( Stress and Freedom)(Rousseau) P. Sloterdijk, 2016 Ditone-print, pencil, gold leaf on paper Edition of 20 + 11 AP 37 x 62 cm A distinctive mark of Jorinde Voigt‘s oeuvre, is to re-elaborate particular passages of musical compositions, literary and philosophical works. For the work: Stress + Freiheit (Rousseau) P. Slotterdijk, Voigt gained inspiration from the homonym literary work by the German philosopher Peter Sloterdijk. In his essay, the author offers a genealogy of the concept of freedom from Ancient Greece to the present day. For this specific graphical work, the artist quotes Slotterdijk’s reading of Rousseau‘s Reveries of a Solitary Walker, following Rousseau on his journey on lake Biel. Here, in a boat, he imagines him meditating and enjoying »nothing but himself and his own existence«. This particular situation and sensation helped him to arrive at his notion of freedom, a topic that continues to impact European society to this day.
