On 3 February 2017, Alkarama raised the case of 15 women and children, who, on 29 January 2017, were killed in a military operation in the Al Bayda Governorate in Yemen by American and Emirati military forces, with the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions (SRSUMX ), Dr Agnes Callamard. We urged her to publicly condemn the attack, which clearly violated International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law and to call upon the US and the UAE to refrain from indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Yemen.

خاطبت #الكرامة في 25 يناير عام 2017، الفريق العامل المعني بحالات #الاختفاء_القسري أو غير الطوعي في الأمم المتحدة بشأن اختطاف سبعة طلاب، تتراوح أعمارهم بين 16 و 22 سنة، من قبل الأمن الوطني بين أكتوبر 2016 ويناير 2017. ولم تفلَح أسرهم في معرفة أية معلومات حول مصيرهم ومكان تواجدهم، رغم كل محاولاتها بسبب نفي السلطات مسؤوليتها عن اختفائهم. #مصر
البحرين: اعتقال وتعذيب خمسة شبان من قرية بني جمرة لإرغامهم على الاعتراف بـ "المشاركة في المظاهرات" | مؤسسة الكرامة
داهم رجال ملثمون بثياب مدنية، بين الثانية والسادسة فجراً يومي 5 و6 ديسمبر 2016، منازل خمسة شبان من بلدة بني جمرة شمال غرب #البحرين وألقوا القبض عليهم. تعرض الشبان الخمسة وبينهم قاصران، للضرب المبرح على جميع أنحاء جسدهم وهم مكبلي الأيدي وأجبروا على الوقوف ليومين كاملين إلى أن اعترفا مرغمين بـ"المشاركة في المظاهرات". تعرب #الكرامة عن قلقها إزاء احتمال استخدام اعترافات الشبان كأدلة لإدانتهم في المحكمة، ورفعت في هذا الشأن نداء عاجلا إلى المقرر الخاص المعني بحرية التجمع السلمي وتكوين الجمعيات، ماينا كياي، تلتمس منه التدخل لدى السلطات البحرينية للحؤول دون ذلك. #التعذيب
Bahrain: Five Young Men from Bani Jamrah Arrested and Tortured to Confess to Having “Participated in Demonstrations” | Alkarama Foundation
On 5 and 6 December 2016, five young men from the town of #BaniJamrah in north-western #Bahrain were arrested from their homes by masked men in civilian clothing between 2 and 6 am. The men, including two minors, were repeatedly beaten all over their body, shackled and forced to stand up for two whole days before being forced to confess to the charge of “participating in demonstrations”. Concerned about the potential use of their confessions as evidence in court, #Alkarama sent an urgent appeal to the UN Special Rapporteur on on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association (SRFPAA ), Maina Kiai, urging his intervention with the Bahraini authorities. #torture
Egypt: Seven Students Go Missing After Their Abduction by State Security | Alkarama Foundation
On 25 January 2017, Alkarama alerted the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID ) of the abduction of seven students – ranging from 16 and 22 years old – by the State Security between October 2016 and January 2017. Despite their families’ numerous attempts to clarify their fate and whereabouts, the authorities continue to deny their detention.

لم يكن صباح 10 يناير 2017 صباحاً عادياً بالنسبة لأطفال مدرسة الفلاح النموذجية ببني معصار التابعة لمديرية نهم في محافظة #صنعاء، كانوا في طريقهم إلى المدرسة حيث باغتهم طيران #التحالف_العسكري بقيادة #السعودية، الذي ألقى وابلاً من القنابل على المدينة، استقر شظايا بعضها في أجساد التلاميذ و معلمهم. خاطبت #الكرامة والمركز القانوني للحقوق والتنمية في 25 يناير 2017، المقررة الخاصة المعنية بحالات الإعدام خارج القضاء، أغنيس كالامار وأعربت المنظمتان عن قلقها العميق إزاء تزايد التقارير حول الضربات الجوية العشوائية التي تستهدف المدنيين، وطالبتا المقررة الخاصة بإدانة انتهاكات القانون الدولي الإنساني و #حقوق_الإنسان من قبل قوات التحالف العسكري الذي تقوده السعودية ضد #اليمن.
Yemen: Saudi-led Coalition Strikes Children on Their Way to School | Alkarama Foundation
On the morning of 10 January 2017, as children were making their way to the Al Fallah Model School in the town of Bani Mesar in the Nihm District of #Sana’a Governorate, the Saudi-led coalition striked the town, killing a school teacher and two students. Concerned with the ever growing reports of indiscriminate airstrikes targeting civilians conducted by the Saudi-led coalition in #Yemen, on 25 January 2017, #Alkarama and the Legal Center for Rights and Development (LCRD ) addressed a communication to the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, arbitrary and summary executions (SRSUMX ), Dr Agnes Callamard , calling for the condemnation of the coalition’s violations of international humanitarian and #human_rights law.

Saudi Arabia: Two Opposition Activists at Risk of Torture if Extradited to Sudan | Alkarama Foundation
On 24 January 2017, Alkarama solicited the Special Rapporteur on #torture (SRT ) on behalf of the Sudanese opposition activists Elwaleed Imam Taha and Elgassim Mohamed Sid-Ahmad, who are currently detained in Al Ha’ir Prison, #SaudiArabia, but fear imminent extradition to #Sudan, where they are at high risk of being subjected to torture and prosecuted for making use of their fundamental right to freedom of expression.

On 18 December 2016, Saudi State Security Forces arrested Issa Al Nukheifi, a prominent Saudi human rights defender and lawyer, after he had been summoned for interrogations by the same authority. On 17 January 2017, Alkarama addressed an urgent appeal to the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders (SRHRD ), Michel Forst, requesting him to call upon Saudi Arabia to immediately release Al Nukheifi.
