Expert Seminar on the Abolition of the Death Penalty
JOIN US TOMORROW AT PALAIS DES NATIONS! Today, more than two thirds of the Member States of the United Nations have abolished the death penalty or observe a legal or de facto moratorium on its use. However, only 81 states have ratified the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) aiming at the abolition of the death penalty, while 103 states have not yet signed it. To facilitate the brainstorming process and to engage in a constructive dialogue, GHR convenes, on the eve of this event, an Expert Seminar on the right to life highlighting in particular the issue of death penalty and the ratification of the Second Optional Protocol.
