ProClim-
International Conference: Adapting to climate change in practice: where are we today, what do we need for tomorrow? 7–8 June 2016, Berne, Switzerland Most Central European countries have developed their own adaptation strategies over the past few years, and it is now questions relating to the implementation of these strategies which are taking centre stage. How can regions, cities and municipalities reduce their climate-related risks and exploit any resulting opportunities? How can researchers, government departments and industry professionals work together successfully on the adaptation process? What underlying conditions will be required? The aim of this international conference is to deliver the answers to these questions. The emphasis will be on concrete examples and experience gathered from the practical implementation of adaptation measures in Central Europe. Projects and measures will be presented and discussed in eight sessions focusing on different challenges. The framework is provided by several overarching topics, namely: strategies, governance approaches, forms of cooperation and knowledge transfer. You can find the conference program at: http://www.proclim.ch/media?3726. The final program, including all speeches that are held in the sessions will be available at the end of March. The event targets everybody who is involved in the practice of adaptation to climate change or who is working at any of the interfaces between science, administration and implementation.
Postdoctoral Fellow – Mountain Social-Ecological Systems Participatory Modeling
Cool postdoc opportunity! Postdoctoral Fellow in Mountain Social-Ecological Systems Modeling The Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory and Department of Ecosystem Science & Sustainability at Colorado State University seek candidates for a postdoctoral fellow position for synthesis and modeling of mountain social-ecological systems as part of a NSF-funded research coordination network (RCN). The RCN goals are to (1) expand an international network of linked mountain biophysical and social science researchers and diverse stakeholders; (2) explore and evaluate transdisciplinary modeling frameworks for mountain social-ecological systems; and (3) promote transdisciplinary approaches linking science with policy and practice. The project involves developing and applying geospatial social-ecological datasets and participatory models and conducting synthesis across diverse mountain social-ecological systems. The project is led by Julia Klein (CSU), in collaboration with Anne Nolin (Oregon State University), Catherine Tucker (Indiana University), Robin Reid (Colorado State University), Adrienne Grêt-Regamey (ETH, Switzerland), Sandra Lavorel (CNRS, France) and colleagues from the Mountain Sentinels Collaborative Network (mountainsentinels.org). The successful candidate will build and synthesize GIS databases, co-develop future scenarios, co-design and test social-ecological models across a range of mountain contexts, and develop visualization tools for relevant stakeholders. The postdoctoral fellow will also have the opportunity to contribute to educational modules and work on innovative ways to communicate project findings – from scientist and stakeholder perspectives. Travel to, leadership and organization of network workshops and meetings is required. https://jobs.colostate.edu/postings/18505

Not really mountain-related, but a cool example of how invaluable "indigenous" knowledge can be. Who would have thought? https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/03/160314085035.htm
