International Community Music School-Basel
Description
The ICMS Basel was founded by a multi-cultural group of professional musicians. We provide high quality music education to Basel's diverse population. The International Community Music School-Basel was founded in 2011 with the goal of providing high-level music instruction in many languages to the diverse region of Basel. Through the multicultural nature of our faculty and student body, we hope to facilitate the integration of our non-native students as well as to form connections between musicians and music lovers from many different backgrounds.
We seek to provide quality music education to the multicultural community in the region, and to form connections between students and families from different backgrounds through their common interest in music.
We strive to equip our students with a fluency in the language of music that permits them to express themselves as honestly as they would with words. By offering music lessons in many languages, we give our students the opportunity to learn a new language or to practice an already familiar second or third language in the context of music instruction. Students may also choose to simply learn an instrument in their mother tongue.
Our students perform regularly in various venues throughout Basel. By organizing performances for our students outside of traditional concert venues (for example in nursing homes or at street markets), we hope to instill in our students the spirit of community service. Their performances are not only a culmination of a period of study but a gift to those around them.
We offer private music lessons in most of the standard orchestral instruments as well as the piano, guitar, saxophone, drums, and accordion. Lessons are offered at our new studio location at Fürstensteinerstrasse 85 in Gundeli and at the Swiss International School in Kleinbasel, as well as in several home studios. The language of instruction is chosen according to the skills and wishes of the student and teacher. All of our teachers are fluent in English, and the majority in German as well. In addition, many of our teachers speak a third or fourth (or in some cases, fifth or sixth!) language.
Through exposure to many languages, cultures, and types of music, we hope to help our students grow into tolerant and multi-faceted individuals.

I missed the June concert - heard it was wonderful! Someone asked me about the glasses we had sold at the previous concert. Since I wasn't there, I am making them available here. If you'd like to purchase (1/2 of the proceeds go to ICMS) let me know. My husband David and I hand craft these glasses from wine bottles. They have a terrific feel to them and each one is unique. Cost is 10 Chf per glass. Best to email me if you are interested - rylla@theexpatexperience.com. Thanks!
