Olive Oil Culture Museum
Description
This temple of olive oil is located in the historic Hacienda La Laguna. It shows the 19th century presses, the culture of the olive tree and its varieties. Created in 1997, the Olive Oil Culture Museum is the temple of the olive tree and olive oil in the province of Jaen. Enjoy the "Oleoturismo", feel the roots of the olive tree, the landscape, gastronomy, folk customs, traditional architecture, everything revolves around the cultivation of the olive tree and olive oil production.
In this museum, which is named after the Natural Park of the Laguna Grande located a mere two kilometers from the museum, we have known the olive tree since the antiquity, you can enjoy the olive trees from the Mediterranean Basin in the Garden of Varieties, take a look to the old processing systems of olive oil, from the crushing, twisting, until the arrival of the beam press, the tower press, or the "Alhorí" press with its wheel and chain system.
You will learn how the harvesting used to be done, the "butifuera", the esparto works applied to olive culture, cooking with olive oil, the different qualities of the olive oil and its uses in countless cosmetics products, etc...
But surely, in this great building of the 17th century, we have to emphasize its oil cellar, known as the "Olive Oil Cathedral" and built in 1848, it is an example of industrial architecture with Central Europe influences and symbol of the progress of the Andalusian olive grove in the 19th century.
We open our gates for you to come and visit the Olive Oil Culture Museum, accompanied by a guide (if you wish and pre-booking it), and perfectly complementing the activities of Oleoturismo and "feel the land of the olive grove".
