Derry Mathews determined ahead of Saturday night World title fight. Derry’s world title fight on Saturday night against Manchester’s WBO Lightweight Champion Terry Flanagan is possibly the most important in his career so far and he is not taking the responsibility lightly. “I'm in the best shape possible, I need to follow the plan and leave a world champion”, he said. Mathews, 32, will be boxing his 50th professional bout and a victory would be the best possible way to mark the anniversary especially in front of a home crowd. Hundreds of boxing fans packed into the Derry Mathews Boxing Academy yesterday afternoon to watch Mathews in action at his media work-out. He was thrilled to have such support. The world tile clash tops a Liverpool Echo Arena bill which also features one of the worlds greatest boxers, Guillermo Rigondeaux, taking on MGM's Jazza Dickens. And a packed undercard includes MGM's leading world title contender Kevin Satchell, and European Champion Ryan Farrag. It is going to be a night of exciting boxing; go #TeamMGM.
