Domačija Medved, Podkum
Description
The Medved homestead is remotely situated on the southern side of Kum. The farm on the ridge is surrounded by a mixed forest, meadows and fields. With the exception of the plain on the ridge top, the entire land is on a slope. The house, which is the central facility of the homestead, is surrounded by several outbuildings. Both the number and the size of the latter indicate the farm’s ability to self-supply.
We have been given the opportunity to show numerous items of venerable age to the public by a public tender for co-financing projects focusing on the improvement of the quality of rural life from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, the LEADER approach. The tender has been announced by “Društvo za razvoj podeželja Zasavje” – LAS Zasavje. The ethnographic collection has been arranged in a shed over the Medved barn.
The booklet offers a short historical description of several generations of the Medved family, followed by the introduction of preserved tools, accessories, documents and some interesting personal items used on the farm in the last two centuries. The collection is especially intended for young people, who have only started appreciating and developing their attitude towards the past. Socializing with different generations will make this exhibition even more interesting. By explaining the usage and purpose of the exhibits, these will come to life again. Our wish is to preserve and display the heritage that we have been entrusted with.
