facebook.comWhen you don't have a training partner so you use a rope to practice opening movement of "Kururunfa" kata, using it as an elbow press on opponents extended arm while droping your bodyweight by transfering to ''nekoashi dachi'' (cat stance) :)
Great insight into some possible applications of techniques from ''Suparinpei'' - the most advanced kata of Shito ryu & Goju ryu schools of karate.
This is probably the oldest (known) karate footage, dating to pre WW2 times in Naha, Okinawa. The man performing Tensho kata is supposed to be mr. Jiinan Shinzato, who was a top student of master Chojun Miyagi of Goju ryu before the war. Mr. Shinzato died during the battle of Okinawa in 1945.
''Karate ni sente nashi'' (there is no first strike in karate) is one of the best known sayings not just in karate, but in martial arts in general. Here, you can find out what some of the legendary karate masters, such as Chojun Miyagi, Choki Motobu, Kenwa Mabuni and Gichin Funakoshi had to say about it.
Goju Ryu Karate
Some great insight into life of master Kyoda Juhatsu. Not as known as Chojun Miyagi or Kenwa Mabuni, he was actually the most senior student of Naha-te master Kanryo Higaonna. Later in his life, he founded a style called To'on ryu.
