JIHAD: The zenith of Islam "And say, Truth has come and falsehood has departed. Indeed falsehood is, [by nature ] bound to depart. " Qur'an 17:81 "It is He who has sent His messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, although they who associate others with Allah dislike it. " The word "Jihad " is used by non muslims to preach against Islam and to instigate hatred towards muslims. To the extent that some ignorant muslims shy away from talking about the jihad. Thought, there are alot of misconceptions about jihad, the fact is that it is the zenith of Islam. What is Jihad? Jihad is an Arabic word, derived from the word "jahada" which means to strive or to struggle. So literally JIHAD means striving or struggling. Islamically, Jihad means striving and struggling to practice and propagate the religion of Islam. Types of Jihad There are mainly four(4) types of Jihad. 1. Jihadun Nafs: striving against one's evil mind inclination, which is the most important Jihad in Islam. 2. Jihad BIL lisan : striving to propagate Islam by tongue, pen/keyboard and protecting the religion against mischievous lies of its enemies. 3. Jihad bil Maal: striving to propagate and protect Islam using wealth, e.g sponsoring Da'awah and Islamic education. 4. Jihad bis Saif : fighting for the cause of Islam. This doesn't mean a fight between muslims and non muslims for reasons of interaction, e.g ethnic, commercial, land dispute and so on. It is fighting against injustice done to muslims for the sake of their religion. The first permission for muslims to fight At early age of Islam, pagans of Mecca persecuted and ceased the properties of whoever accepted Islam. They plot to kill the prophet, which forced the muslims to migrate to Medina. And then the permission to to self defense and revenge was given. "Permission [to fight] has been given to those who are being fought because they were wronged. And indeed, Allah is competent to give them victory. " Qur'an 22:39 "That [is so]. And whoever responds [to injustice] with the equivalent of that with which he was harmed and then is tyrannised - Allah will surely aid him. Indeed, Allah is Pardoning and Forgiving." Qur'an 22:60 Who do muslims fight? Muslims only fight who fight them, or try to force them to leave their religion. And it is forbidden for muslims to mutilate and to kill children, women, armless, surrendered, handicapped and animals which referred to transgressions. Qur'an says : "Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors." Qur'an 2:190 Aim of Jihad The aim of jihad is not just to kill but to cohabit in peace. That is why Islam gives room for peace negotiations. "And if they (who fight you) incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allah. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, Knowing. But if they intend to deceive you - then sufficient for you is Allah." Qur'an 8:61-62 Tolerance in Islam No cheat, no cheating. Muslims cohabit and engage in social interactions with non muslims. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) cohabited with jews, Christians and hypocrite (to whom nowadays liberals look like) Qur'an says "Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly." Qur'an 60:8 Islam is justice, peace and mercy to humanity. Good muslims want you to be a muslim and does not want you to be killed!
