Network for Social Welfare & Economic Development® (NetSWED©) was founded on March 24, 2014 after years of brooding and eventual recognition by the Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja.
NetSWED© is a product of clear vision, genuine passion and irrevocable decision to stop being passive or reactive to development and leadership issues but to take proactive measures and be active in the business of citizen and community development as well as the restoration of hope and happiness to Nigerians and Africans through the creation of a non-partisan, non-religious, non-cultural youth-led action and advocacy platform to advocate for the good life for individuals and communities.
Below are the First Objectives of the NetSWED© are as follows:
1. To create a platform for the promotion of the retention and the elevation to justiciable or legally actionable or enforceable status, as well as the advocacy for the implementation, of the Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy contained in Chapter II (Chapters 13 – 24, especially Chapter 17) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and similar sections in other international laws, treaties or charters.
2. To create platforms for civil society networking, social media network, and local community organizing for promoting socio-economic, geo-political and human capital development research, action, development advocacy.
3. To create a research and action platform for job creation initiatives and an advocacy for the enforceability of government’s constitutional duty to provide and secure jobs directly or indirectly and guarantee unemployment benefits for all citizens until they find jobs, as well as to advocate for the establishment of comprehensive health insurance programme for all citizens, as legally enforceable fundamental and constitutional citizen’s right.
4. To create platforms for the development and institutionalization of social, corporate, economic, political, policy and leadership research, training and development initiatives.
5. To create institutions for the development and advancement of leadership training and policy initiatives; social, economic, political, strategy, and policy education.
6. To involve in and conduct public interest litigation and defend human and economic rights of citizens, especially women, the less-privileged, the poor, the vulnerable and the minorities.
7. To promote charitable causes.
