Het Internationaal toernooi zoals dat nu wordt georganiseerd bestaat eigenlijk al sinds 1985. Bij mijn toenmalige vereniging s.v. Flevo’80 uit Almere (deze club is in 1997 helaas ontbonden). Het toernooi verplaatste zich toen naar SV Almere en toen deze club in 2008 failliet ging werd het toernooi overgenomen door FC Almere. Een club welke echt bijna vanaf het begin aanwezig was op dit toernooi is Liverpool Schoolboys uit de gelijknamige stad. De schoolboys bestaan uit talentvolle spelers uit de scholen van Liverpool en hierop zitten ook diverse spelers uit de Academy van Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle etc. Spelers als Robbie Fowler en Steven Gerard hebben zelfs ooit in Almere gespeeld namens de Liverpool Schoolboys. Ook Celtic Boys Belfast is jarenlang een vaste deelnemer geweest aan dit toernooi maar is enkele jaren geleden boos weggegaan bij het toernooi en niet meer teruggekomen.
Echter toen in 2013 Liverpool Schoolboys een kleine maand van tevoren een mail kreeg dat het toernooi niet doorging bij FC Almere omdat ze te weinig deelnemers hadden besloot ik het toernooi naar FC Weesp te halen. Bijna 30 jaar had ik als supporter, trainer, medewerker het toernooi van dichtbij mee mogen maken. Liverpool Schoolboys en Celtic Boys Club Belfast waren dankzij mijn contacten aanwezig geweest en nu werd het dus tijd om zelf het toernooi op te gaan pakken.
In 2013 was het nog even kijken hoe het zou gaan en werd het toernooi in een kleine maand in elkaar gedraaid, met de teams van FC Weesp, AFC Amsterdam, BFC Bussum, Hoogland, AS80 en Liverpool Schoolboys was de eerste editie een feit. Dit toernooi werd op slechts 1 dag gespeeld nog en Liverpool Schoolboys won deze eerste editie.
In 2014 werden de zaken beter aangepakt, samen met Alex van der Kolk werd er ruim een jaar hard gewerkt en kwam er een geweldig toernooi van twee dagen uit. Het deelnemersveld werd ook uitgebreid tot de gewenste 10 deelnemers. Aanwezig waren: FC Weesp, AFC Amsterdam, BFC Bussum, Zwaluwen Utrecht, Waterwijk uit Almere, Feanstars/Jong Harkema, DSO Zoetermeer, zustergemeente TJ Svitavy uit Tjechie, Celtic Boys en Liverpool Schoolboys.
Deze teams hebben in 2013 er een geweldig spektakel van gemaakt en onder massale publieke belangstelling werd AFC Amsterdam de grote toernooiwinnaar.
Voor 2015 zijn de voorbereidingen intussen alweer begonnen want meteen na, de zo succesvolle editie van 2014, werd besloten dat we gaan proberen hier een jaarlijkse traditie van te maken.

The International tournament as it is now organized actually existed since 1985. In my former association s.v. Flevo'80 from Almere (this club is unfortunately disbanded in 1997). The tournament then moved to SV Almere and when this club in 2008, the tournament was acquired bankrupt by FC Almere. A club which really almost from the beginning was present at this tournament is Liverpool Schoolboys from the same city. The schoolboys consist of talented players from the schools of Liverpool and this are also several players from the Academy of Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle etc. Players like Robbie Fowler and Steven Gerard have even ever played in Almere on behalf of the Liverpool Schoolboys. Also Celtic Boys Belfast has for years been a regular participant in this tournament but a few years ago angrily left the tournament and never came back.

facebook.comZoals vorige week reeds beloofd kunnen wij al trots mededelen dat er al 5 clubs rond zijn voor ons 1e jubileumeditie van het Internationaal #Kanjer Toernooi bij FC Weesp. Bekerhouder PVCV Vleuten, FC Abcoude en uiteraard Fc Weesp zijn de Nederlandse teams welke al zeker zijn van deelname. Ook onze Tsjechische zustergemeente TJ Svitavy fotbal heeft bevestigd weer aanwezig te zullen zijn. En we zijn er trots op het komend jaar ook een Belgische vertegenwoordiging te kunnen verwelkomen, Royal Albert Quévy-Mons zal voor het eerst acte de préséance gaan geven in Weesp. Al met al betekend dat het toernooi al voor de helft rond is en we hopen op kort termijn meer definitieve deelnemers bekend te kunnen maken. ---- / ---- As promised we proudly can announce that we have already five clubs who confirmed their participation at our 5th Annual “International #Kanjer Tournament” organized by FC Weesp. Last year’s overall winner PVCV Vleuten, FC Abcoude and obviously FC Weesp are the Dutch teams. Also our Czech twin town TJ Svitavy has confirmed that it will be present again. And we are proud that the coming year we will be able to welcome a Belgian representation , Royal Albert Quévy Mons will come for the first time to Weesp . That means that the tournament has been filled up quick and on short –term we hope to announce more definitive participants.
Het is een tijd stil geweest door de vakanties maar vanaf vandaag zijn we weer volop bezig met de voorbereidingen op ons eerste jubileumeditie.
