We salute our Council workers who have put in enormous hours, in treacherous conditions, doing yeoman’s work to get our roads cleared. For those who feel let down, I can say that we come from climates where this would not close roads — but only because government maintains billions of dollars in specialised equipment. When snow hits temperate climates, like Washington, DC the same problem occurs. However, I think our Council workers did a better job than I would have expected in DC. Our hats are off to our Council workers, especially Road Crews and Engineers who we think have done a good job in the circumstances. We hope you stay safe and warm and get home to take care of your own families soon enough. Well done! Thank you all.

Today I walked by the lane way going up to the church and saw about 20 men clearing it with shovels. I wish I had my camera. It was a splendid display of community spirit and each is to be congratulated.

Roads are worse than yesterday. Footpaths are extremely bad. Please don’t go out driving unless necessary. Only a handful of shops open, and the. Only until Noon or 3 pm at latest.

At least 1/2 inch of ice on Main Streets. With freezing-thawing-freezing today if there is any further snow it will get worse. Stay at home. Too many accidents this morning already.

With our extensive renovations almost completed, we were very glad to develop and roll-out our "Going Green Initiative - 2018" in which we fitted our shop with the latest, environmentally friendly, low carbon footprint fixtures, flooring and fittings. Being in a seaside town we see daily how precious is our environment. As Oksana, Blaithnaid and I walk the beautiful grounds of Temple Michael and gaze out on the Blackwater River, or visit the Promenade and look out upon the Celtic Sea and simply walk down the street to Youghal Harbour, we see the devastating impact pollution has on Ireland's waterways, seas and ocean. Our committment to do our part, by introducting fully compostable coffee cups, lids and disposables is only part of our "Going Green Initiative - 2018". Our non-slip flooring, made from 65% recycled materials, which are 100% recyclable at life's-end and our low-energy lighting fixtures and other fittings are other aspects of what we are doing to keep Ireland green and healthy for our children, our children's children and generations to come. Everybody can do their part to keep our environment clean, reduce, recyle and re-use; to not litter, stop dog fouling which pollute our waters and introduces harmful bacteria into our homes and endangers our help and do all that we can to keep our community and country healthy and strong. Summer is just around the corner. I was thinking about last year and the number of newspapers that named us ‘One of Ireland’s Best Ice Cream Parlours’, including the Irish Independent. We can’t wait for the renovations to be completed so we can return to serving you our award-winning, handmade, artisan ice cream. See you all soon!

Helping to bring people to Youghal is part of our mission. Oksana and I take our appointment as Tourism Ambassadors seriously and in the next few weeks we will be doing several radio and television shows in the USA and Canada to help promote Youghal and Ireland. We are always pleased when food critics from Ireland's national newspapers name us the 'Creme de la creme' and 'One of Ireland's Best Ice Cream Parlours' because we know it brings people from around the country to Youghal. We are looking back over the past and preparing to re-open now that the renovations are coming to completion. Its nice to look back on all that we have achieved if only to be reminded of how hard we will continue to work for our business, to help promote tourism for Youghal and to create the kind of place people like to return to over-and-over again.
