CBT is a talking therapy that is based on the premise that people’s emotional and behavioural difficulties are not caused by what happens to them but by the way they think about what happens to them.
This means that these difficulties can be significantly reduced or eliminated if an individual changes the way they think.
WHAT can CBT help with?
CBT is an effective and efficient approach to resolving a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties including anxiety, depression, anger, hurt, phobias and OCD.
HOW does it work?
CBT uses a pragmatic, problem solving approach.
It helps the client to :
Identify unhealthy thinking that is the cause of the difficulty
Identify emotional and behavioural goals to work towards resolving
Change their thinking
Learn emotional problem solving skills that they can apply in all areas of their life
WHY CBT?
There is a wealth of evidence for the effectiveness of CBT. It was the only form of Psychotherapy / counselling specifically mentioned in the “Vision for Change” policy document for mental health services produced by the Department of Health and Children and is the treatment of choice for anxiety and depression by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE). It is attractive to clients and those who refer them because it is a relatively short term therapy that uses a practical problem solving approach.
COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR COACHING works in partnership with you to help you identify where you are now; where you want to get to, identify what is getting in the way, learn how to remove those barriers and create a practical measurable plan so that you can move forward and achieve your goals.
