What is Economics all about?
Economics is a Social science. In the broadest sense, Social Science is the scientific study of human society and social relationships.
Economics is the study of social behaviour guiding the allocation of scarce resources to meet the unlimited needs and desires of the individual members of a given society.
It tells us about the world beyond our immediate experience, and can help explain how our own society works - from the causes of unemployment or what helps economic growth, to how and why people vote, it explains why some people are rich and others poor, why professional footballers are paid more than nurses, why women are paid less than men, or what makes people happy. It provides vital information for governments and policymakers, local authorities, non-governmental organisations and others.
Put simply, Economics is a fascinating and inspiring subject!

Is There more to Marx than communism? I'd like to think so. Marxism is imperfect, no doubt. But no less or no more that than the 'Utopia' of unfettered capitalism. Maybe there's an alternative to the status quo, maybe not. I don't know what that alternative is but I would like there to be a debate at least; especially in our classrooms. http://www.economist.com/node/1489165?fsrc=scn/fb/te/bl/ed/marxaftercommunism
