This group has been formed by family and friends in memory of Adrienne Elizabeth Hussey to fund cranial aneurysm research. Friends of A has been established in memory of Adrienne Elizabeth Hussey, who passed away on January 19, 2012, aged just 26, as a result of a ruptured brain aneurysm. She had previously represented Texas at the 2010 Rose of Tralee International Festival and immediately fell in love with Ireland and its people, which proved to be the catalyst for her eventual move to Dublin in 2011.

Before Adrienne’s move she graduated from the University of Texas in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in social work, followed in 2011 by a Master of Science in social work.

Adrienne was employed at The Ann Richards School Foundation in Austin, Texas as the manager of special projects before her move to Ireland. She worked closely with the executive director in supporting programs for the Ann Richards School for at-risk girls, helped with fundraising, developed endowment campaigns and managed trust accounts.

She had also been a case manager for South West Key Program in Austin and a program manager for The Austin Academy in Austin. Adrienne was a Big Sister Mentor since 2005, a representative for the School of Social Work at the University of Austin Student Government Board and an All Ireland champion Irish dancer. She loved life and helping others.

Adrienne was extremely proud of her education and always wanted to help others who entered her life in any way that she could. All of Adrienne’s family and friends were only too aware of this hope to inspire others in life, and our team is committed to honouring that hope and continuing that trend by funding cranial aneurysm research.

We want to share one of our favourite photos of Adrienne to mark her 6 year anniversary. We want you, who may not have known her, to see what we saw and I hope Nicola Hackett you don't mind but as one of her most treasured friends its seems right that you share this perfect frame with her. Look at Adrienne's hair, aah perfection. So much hair to get lost in. Look at her smile, the twinkle in her eyes, the sincerity shining from them. This is but a second of Adrienne, a moment captured only weeks before she passed away, but it is everything. It shows her kindness, it shows her fun, it shows the life within her. Six years ago today changed our lives, we learn to get through loss but never to get over it. Adrienne we wish for one more moment to breath you in. We love you. We miss you. Never, ever forgotten. As always our thoughts are with Ann, Pat and Clint who made Adrienne the person she was and let us borrow her before she passed.

"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard..." Friends of A was born in 2012 as a way for us to honour, remember and cope with the loss of our friend Adrienne Hussey. It has surpassed our wildest dreams and been one hell of a journey. In our 5 years of existence, we have raised over €100,000 for brain aneurysm research. Our annual Black Tie Ball is a celebration of that work and of the life of Adrienne, and this year was no different. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to each and every person that came along to our final ever Black Tie Ball, and who have supported us so generously over the last 5 years. Thank you for helping us to remember our friend Adrienne. And thank you helping us to turn a tragedy into the greatest thing we have ever done. #FOABTB #BlackTieBall #thankyou
