Hi everyone, Bev from The Hogsprickle is our main wildlife rehabilitation person - she takes the majority of our injured wildlife and nurses them back to health and is a mine of information. We have been asked to share this on her behalf. Thanks for taking the time to read it :-) The Hogsprickle is a not-for-profit wildlife rescue and rehabilitation unit that supports hedgehogs and other native Irish wildlife from across the country. While it started off as primarily an intensive care hospital and recovery centre for hedgehogs, the Hogsprickle increasingly cares for more and more types of Irish wildlife. Some of the patients that have found shelter, help and emergency care at the hospital include foxes, badgers, pine martins, shrews, hedgehogs, and many, many different types of bird. The Hogsprickle is delighted to announce the start of our ‘Unite for Irish Wildlife’ campaign. We are looking for 200 big-hearted, kind vets, animal stores and individuals to donate €10 each (or any amount that you can donate) to help us to support injured, sick, orphaned or distressed Irish wildlife. The Hogsprickle is a completely voluntary organisation – created and run by award winning veterinary nurse and wildlife rehabilitator, Bev Truss (a woman with the biggest heart in the world!!). Bev relies on a small group of dedicated volunteers to help transport the casualties from all around the country. Take a look at some of the pictures from our gallery below to see some of the many patients under Bev’s care this year. But the Hogsprickle has hit a crisis and we need your help! The cages that are currently being used are no longer fit for purpose (the picture on the left below). They are too bulky, difficult to clean and seriously limit the number of casualties that the Hogsprickle can cope with. In 2017, Bev had to close the hospital to new admissions on three occasions as it was already packed to capacity – casualties had to be redirected to centres at the other side of the country. In order to ensure that this doesn’t happen again in 2018 and to be able to continue this really important work, the Hogsprickle needs a serious upgrade! This is where you can help! Bev has sourced amazing new sustainable recovery cages for the Hogsprickle’s smaller patients (the picture on the right below). These will cost approximately €2000 to fit out the recovery unit at the Hogsprickle. So, we need your help! If we can get 200 people or businesses to donate just €10 each (or any amount that you can donate! Every euro helps!) we can reach our target and be able to help even more Irish wildlife in 2018.
Sharing for a client whose own cat is a little stressed at the prospect of a new roommate!: This gorgeous cuddly girlie "Leah" is looking for a home, approx 5 months old, playful and also content to sit in your lap for cuddles. Has lived with a sheepdog so is fine in that regard. She looks to play with the other cat in the house, but unfortunately he gets stressed with this and so the owner would like her to be re-homed to a more suitable household. If you can offer this beauty a home please phone the clinic on 091788270. Thank you!😊
